I’m Lawrence De Hart, the owner and operator of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. I started this business in 2012 after losing my job at Fort Riley. With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. With no funds, no credit, and a drive to succeed, I turned my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and hit the ground running! I grew up in the Junction City/Manhattan area. I’m 31 years old and have a wonderful 8-year-old son who means the world to me. Family is everything to me, and I value every moment spent with them. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. Once our name was established, we landed our first significant job, which was the plumbing installation for the new Wareham hotel. Indeed, that very Wareham hotel!

In the midst of the Depression and Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger traveled to Alaska to pan for gold, while his wife managed the business. Upon returning from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company in 1941 as an apprentice plumber and worked there for 16 years before acquiring it in 1957.

Paul's sons, Rick and Dale, later became part of the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

In 2004, four employees took ownership of the company. Three of those employees remain today and serve as the Board of Directors, overseeing daily operations.
