I am Lawrence De Hart, the proud owner of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. In 2012, I established this company after I was laid off from my plumbing job at Fort Riley. After months of searching for work without success, I decided to take a bold step and launch my own venture. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Having grown up in Junction City and Manhattan, I know this community well. At 31 years old, I cherish my time with my 8-year-old son. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. With our name recognized, we secured our first major project, installing plumbing in the new Wareham hotel. That’s right, the same Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. After his return from Alaska, Paul Anderson became an apprentice plumber with the company in 1941, eventually working there for 16 years before purchasing it in 1957.

Rick and Dale, Paul’s sons, eventually entered the family business. In 1958, we installed the first central air conditioning unit in the town. In January 1988, Rick acquired Dale Anderson's share of the business.

The company was sold to four employees in 2004. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
