I’m Lawrence De Hart, the owner and operator of De Hart Plumbing Heating & Cooling. In 2012, I established this company after I was laid off from my plumbing job at Fort Riley. After struggling to find employment for months, I took a leap of faith and created my own company. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Today, we proudly hold the title of the highest-rated plumbing service in Manhattan and Junction City.

I grew up in the Junction City/Manhattan area. At 31 years old, I cherish my time with my 8-year-old son. Family is everything to me, and I value every moment spent with them. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. After establishing our reputation, we took on our first large project, installing plumbing for the new Wareham hotel. That’s right, the same Wareham hotel!

During the tough times of the Depression and Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger went to Alaska to search for gold, leaving his wife to oversee operations. After his return from Alaska, Paul Anderson became an apprentice plumber with the company in 1941, eventually working there for 16 years before purchasing it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we were proud to install the town's first central air conditioning unit. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Today, three of those original employees still serve as the Board of Directors, managing the company’s daily activities.
