With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. Harry Berger established Standard Plumbing in 1923, installing our first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. Once our name was established, we landed our first significant job, which was the plumbing installation for the new Wareham hotel. Indeed, that very Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. After his return from Alaska, Paul Anderson became an apprentice plumber with the company in 1941, eventually working there for 16 years before purchasing it in 1957.

Later, Paul’s sons, Rick and Dale, joined the family business. In 1958, we were proud to install the town's first central air conditioning unit. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Three of those employees continue to serve on the Board of Directors and supervise the company’s operations.
