With no job prospects after months of searching, I made the decision to start my own business. Armed with little money, no credit, and a determination to succeed, I converted my Chevy HHR into a work vehicle and got started. In 1923, Harry Berger founded Standard Plumbing, installing the first coal-fed, gravity-fired furnace in Manhattan, KS. After establishing our reputation, we took on our first large project, installing plumbing for the new Wareham hotel. Indeed, that very Wareham hotel!

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Mr. Berger ventured to Alaska to seek gold, leaving his wife in charge. Upon returning from Alaska, Paul Anderson joined the company in 1941 as an apprentice plumber and worked there for 16 years before acquiring it in 1957.

Paul's sons, Rick and Dale, later became part of the family business. We made history in 1958 by installing the first central air conditioning unit in the area. In January 1988, Rick purchased Dale Anderson's portion of the company.

In 2004, the company transitioned to four employees. Today, three of those original employees still serve as the Board of Directors, managing the company’s daily activities.
