Founded in 1978 by John E. Shekell, the company started as a small heating and air conditioning operation with one van. He later expanded into plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. With this purchase, Shekell became the foremost HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. Shekell expanded further in 2000 by acquiring WSC Associates, a distinguished engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

Kevin, a native of Evansville, Indiana, graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. From 2004 to 2006, he held the position of president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter. Kevin took on the role of President of J.E. Shekell in January 2009.
