In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. The business soon branched out into plumbing and electrical work. During the 1980s, John Shekell propelled the company forward by purchasing George Koch Sons' service center. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell acquired WSC Associates, a well-respected engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. He then expanded his expertise to include commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimating and project management. He attended Oakland City University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

In 2004, Kevin became the Vice President of Construction. He finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

He has been happily married for 16 years and is a father of two. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. Kevin took on the role of President of J.E. Shekell in January 2009.
