In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. He later expanded into plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell acquired WSC Associates, a well-respected engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. Following eight years as a service technician, he obtained an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After his time as a service technician, he transitioned to a residential HVAC sales role. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

In 2004, Kevin became the Vice President of Construction. In December 2006, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. He was the president of the Evansville SMACNA chapter between 2004 and 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.
