In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. Shekell expanded further in 2000 by acquiring WSC Associates, a distinguished engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. Reflecting on the journey, John Shekell attributes the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to loyal customers, dedicated employees, extensive training, and a strong focus on safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

Following his service technician role, he moved into residential HVAC sales. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. He pursued his education at Oakland City University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

In 2004, Kevin became the Vice President of Construction. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. He was the president of the Evansville SMACNA chapter between 2004 and 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.

I started My Handyman Services while running A1 Redi Rooter, recognizing a demand from my existing customers. I received requests for various tasks outside of plumbing, which inspired the establishment of Mike's Handyman Services.

Like many, I started working for someone else, but eventually, I was offered a chance to go into business for myself. After completing business management and plumbing school, along with extensive training in consulting and leadership, I have been running my own business since 1987.
