John E. Shekell established the company in 1978, beginning with a single van for heating and air conditioning services. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. During the 1980s, John Shekell propelled the company forward by purchasing George Koch Sons' service center. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. Shekell expanded from service and installations into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. Looking back, John Shekell credits the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to his loyal customers, committed employees, thorough training, and prioritizing safety.

Kevin, a native of Evansville, Indiana, graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. Kevin later added commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager to his skill set. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. He finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

Kevin has been married for 16 years and has two children. From 2004 to 2006, he held the position of president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter. Kevin took on the role of President of J.E. Shekell in January 2009.

Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. was established in 1983 and officially incorporated in 1984. Joe and Maria Bayer, along with Joe's brother Mike, started the company. The business started in the residence of Joe and Maria. The garage housed the inventory, while the office was arranged in the children's old playroom.

In 1985, they moved to a new location. While keeping the office at home, they transferred the inventory to a local warehouse. In January 1987, they acquired three additional vans and hired a secretary. In May 1987, the business moved to a 6,000 sq ft facility with a showroom, office, and shop capable of housing eight vans.

By 1991, the business had grown substantially and needed a larger facility. They built a new 30,000 sq ft facility and moved to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, where they still operate.
