In 1978, John E. Shekell launched the company, starting with just one van focused on heating and air conditioning. He subsequently grew the business to include plumbing and electrical services. In the 1980s, John Shekell advanced the company by acquiring the service center of George Koch Sons. This acquisition positioned Shekell as the largest HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. Shekell expanded further in 2000 by acquiring WSC Associates, a distinguished engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. Looking back, John Shekell credits the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to his loyal customers, committed employees, thorough training, and prioritizing safety.

Kevin, who hails from Evansville, Indiana, completed his education at Reitz High School in 1988. Kevin started working at J.E. Shekell Inc. as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After his time as a service technician, he transitioned to a residential HVAC sales role. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. He attended Oakland City University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

In 2004, Kevin became the Vice President of Construction. He finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

He has been happily married for 16 years and is a father of two. From 2004 to 2006, he held the position of president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.
