I was raised in a small town named Advance, Indiana, before settling in Zionsville in the early 1970s. Advance is a large farming community, and it’s where I learned that treating people well leads to success. Working on the farms with my grandfather at a young age instilled in me the value of hard work. When I was 9, I started helping my father, who was already established in the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) field. That was back when crawlspaces were exciting! After graduating from Zionsville High School in 1973, I immediately started working as an HVAC service technician. I worked for several different companies before founding Control Tech in 1983. Some were excellent, while others left much to be desired. What I learned from the less favorable companies was that they often lacked honesty and integrity.
