John E. Shekell established the company in 1978, beginning with a single van for heating and air conditioning services. The business soon branched out into plumbing and electrical work. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. With this purchase, Shekell became the foremost HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. Transitioning from service and installations, Shekell entered the realm of design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. Shekell expanded further in 2000 by acquiring WSC Associates, a distinguished engineering firm in Evansville, Indiana. This new subsidiary enhanced Shekell's design capabilities, solidifying its presence in the area. Looking back, John Shekell credits the success of J.E. Shekell, Inc. to his loyal customers, committed employees, thorough training, and prioritizing safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

Following his service technician role, he moved into residential HVAC sales. He then expanded his expertise to include commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimating and project management. He attended Oakland City University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

He took on the role of Vice President of Construction in 2004. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. He was the president of the Evansville SMACNA chapter between 2004 and 2006. In January 2009, Kevin was appointed President of J.E. Shekell.

Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. was established in 1983 and officially incorporated in 1984. The company was launched by Joe and Maria Bayer, along with Joe's brother, Mike. It all began in the home of Joe and Maria. They stored inventory in the garage and set up an office in what used to be the children's playroom.

In 1985, they moved to a new location. While keeping the office at home, they transferred the inventory to a local warehouse. In January 1987, they purchased three more vans and employed a secretary. By May 1987, the company expanded to a 6,000 sq ft showroom, office, and shop that could accommodate eight vans.

In 1991, the company had expanded so much that it outgrew its initial shop. A new 30,000 sq ft building was constructed, and the company relocated to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, where it remains today.
