John E. Shekell established the company in 1978, beginning with a single van for heating and air conditioning services. He later expanded into plumbing and electrical services. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. This move established Shekell as the leading HVAC service company in the Tri-State region. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. In retrospect, John Shekell believes the achievements of J.E. Shekell, Inc. stem from loyal customers, devoted employees, comprehensive training, and a commitment to safety.

An Evansville native, Kevin graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. After eight years as a service technician, he earned an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

After serving as a technician, he shifted to residential HVAC sales. Kevin later added commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager to his skill set. He attended Oakland City University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

Kevin was appointed Vice President of Construction in 2004. He finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

For 16 years, he has been married and is the proud parent of two children. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.

Bayer's Plumbing, Inc. was established in 1983 and officially incorporated in 1984. The company was launched by Joe and Maria Bayer, along with Joe's brother, Mike. The business started in the residence of Joe and Maria. Inventory was kept in the garage, and the office was established in the former toy room of their children.

In 1985, they moved to a new location. They maintained the office at home while moving the inventory to a nearby warehouse. They added three more vans and brought on a secretary in January 1987. By May 1987, the company expanded to a 6,000 sq ft showroom, office, and shop that could accommodate eight vans.

By 1991, the business had grown substantially and needed a larger facility. A new 30,000 sq ft building was constructed, and the company relocated to 7944 Bell Oaks Dr in Newburgh, where it remains today.
