John E. Shekell established the company in 1978, beginning with a single van for heating and air conditioning services. The business soon branched out into plumbing and electrical work. In the '80s, John Shekell took a significant step by acquiring the service center from George Koch Sons. With this purchase, Shekell became the foremost HVAC service provider in the Tri-State area. From service and new installations, Shekell ventured into design/build projects and plan/specification contracting. In 2000, Shekell purchased WSC Associates, a reputable engineering firm based in Evansville, Indiana. The acquisition allowed Shekell to enhance its design capabilities, establishing a strong presence in the region. Looking back, John Shekell credits the success of J.E. Kevin, a native of Evansville, Indiana, graduated from Reitz High School in 1988. His journey at J.E. Shekell Inc. began as a residential HVAC installer. During his eight years as a service technician, he achieved an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Industrial Technology from Ivy Tech.

Following his service technician role, he moved into residential HVAC sales. Kevin subsequently took on roles as a commercial industrial HVAC/sheet metal estimator and project manager. At Oakland City University, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management.

In 2004, Kevin became the Vice President of Construction. He completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in December 2006.

He has been happily married for 16 years and is a father of two. He served as the president of the local Evansville SMACNA chapter from 2004 to 2006. In January 2009, he was named President of J.E. Shekell.

The business started in the residence of Joe and Maria. The garage housed the inventory, while the office was arranged in the children's old playroom.

The year 1985 saw Joe and Maria change their address. They kept the office in their home and moved the inventory to a local storage facility.
