On June 1, 1973, Gladston Mealor and his son, Sidney Mealor, founded Plumbing Distributors, Inc. at 166 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville. Four team members, including Glad and Sid, operated the small business, which focused on counter sales and delivery.
On February 13, 1976, we began distributing American Standard products. This was a significant milestone for PDI. The addition of American Standard products helped us prove our strength in the plumbing industry. This success enabled PDI to acquire other prominent plumbing brands, including A.O. Smith water heaters and later Aqua Glass bath fixtures.
With PDI's growth, the need for a bigger facility became apparent. We wanted to stay connected to our roots in Lawrenceville. A piece of land was purchased in an emerging industrial park near Collins Hill Road, allowing for easy access to Georgia Highway 316. Our Corporate Headquarters were based at 20 Collins Hill Road from 1984 to 2006, but we needed to find a new location to facilitate further growth.
