Don Bennett started his journey at Athens Plumbing in the early 1960s, working alongside his father, Curtis, and later took over the business with his brother Richard in 1980. Now, as the sole owner of this 70-year-old local establishment, Don employs his two sons: Tap, a master plumber with 19 years of experience, and Jason, who manages office operations. His wife, Libby, is the office manager at Athens Plumbing. He also has two other children, one of whom is former UGA Bulldog place-kicker Billy Bennett, and a daughter who is not currently involved in the business.

“I highly support family-run companies,” Bennett remarked. “The sense of togetherness is what I value the most. Tackling problems as a team is a challenge I have learned to appreciate,” he concluded.

Carson Plumbing was founded by Chuck Carson in 1982. Initially, it operated from his home, with his wonderful wife Penny handling much of the administrative tasks at the kitchen table. Things escalated for Chuck, and he soon found himself hiring staff and buying more trucks and gear as needed. The company eventually outgrew the house, leading Mr. Carson to acquire the land at 259 Wynburn Ave in Athens for the business.

The old wooden building was lost to a lightning fire in 1989, leading to the erection of a new facility. Since then, the company has been operating from this new location. In February 2008, Chuck Carson sold his long-standing business to his sons, Josh and Pete Carson. The new owners have made it their mission to maintain the same integrity and courtesy in their customer and community relations that their father taught them. Carson Plumbing is currently managed by Mike McCain, who has been part of the team since 1986.
