Michael's ancestor William S. ""Snooky"" Phillips founded ""Miami Plumbing & Heating Co."" in 1899 in Miami, Florida. Snooky's ancestor was involved in construction & early plumbing systems in the mid to late 1800's. While not much is known about him beyond that, family legend holds he worked in construction and plumbing, serving under railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. Snooky was said to be one of the first plumbing contractors in Florida to be issued a plumbing contractor's license by Dade County, thanks to his parent's reported affiliation with Henry Flagler & the fact that at that time little or no regulation or plumbing code at any level of government was established. In those days the contractor's licensing took place at the county level and not at the state level as it currently is. For the Phillips family, the term ""Grandfathered"" has literal meaning.
