His great great grandfather William S. ""Snooky"" Phillips started ""Miami Plumbing & Heating"" in 1899 in Miami, Florida. Snooky's father was also construction & initial plumbing systems in the mid to late 1800's. While not much is known about him than that, family history holds he worked in construction and plumbing, employed by railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. He is considered one of the initial plumbing contractors in Florida to be issued a plumbing contractor's license by Dade County, thanks to his father's alleged affiliation with Henry Flagler & the fact that at that time there was minimal regulation or plumbing code at any level of government were in place. In those days the contractor's licensing occurred at the county level and not at the state level as it is done today. For Michael's family, the term ""Grandfathered Status"" has literal meaning.
