Michael's great-great-grandfather William S. ""Snooky"" Phillips started ""Miami Plumbing & Heating Co."" in 1899 in Miami, Florida. His father was involved in construction & primitive plumbing systems in the mid to late 19th century. While not much is known about him aside from that, family legend claims he worked in construction and plumbing, employed by railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. Snooky is considered one of the pioneering plumbing contractors in Florida to be granted a plumbing contractor's license by Dade County, due to his father's alleged affiliation with Henry Flagler & the fact that at that time there was minimal regulation or plumbing code at any level of government were in place. In those days the contractor's licensing occurred at the county level and not at the state level as it currently is. For Michael's family, the term ""Grandfathered Status"" has a real significance.
