In 1966, the company relocated from Filmore to the Southwood Shopping Center at Orange and El Camino in South San Francisco.
While attending Arch Bishop Riordan High School, Denis started working after school and on weekends at Southwood Hardware, Plumbing and Heating, where he supported his father and his partner, Bill Sylvia. After completing his education at Riordan High School in 1981, Denis purchased a partnership from Bill Sylvia. At that point, he committed to working full-time in the business. Denis holds the title of Certified Plumbing Inspector and has taught apprenticeship courses at San Mateo Adult School in collaboration with the Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling Contractors Association. Denis is also a certified backflow tester with the American Water Works Association. He has a C-36 Plumbing License and a C-20 Heating/HVAC License issued by the State of California.
