In 2000, I embarked on my path as a general contractor. My status as a service-disabled veteran was an asset until 2010. I took a five-year pause in Maryland before returning to Sacramento. I remain active as a general contractor and specialist in home improvements. Recertification as a service-disabled veteran may be on my horizon. At this time, I highlight my business as veteran-owned, with military service spanning from 1972 to 1996. My background includes work at state, federal, and local levels, covering both commercial and residential areas, I take pride in fulfilling homeowners' requirements and moving seamlessly from one small project to another. I don't foresee major shifts in this process anytime soon.
I became self-employed after serving as a soldier in the Army. Some veterans choose to pursue other jobs that offer more stability, like a steady paycheck or an additional pension after another 15 or 20 years. I explored that path, but it wasn't the right fit for me. I found fulfillment in serving something larger than myself while on active duty. Once you embrace true leadership, you understand the importance of guiding others based on a shared belief in unity. Accepting the complacency of those who don't appreciate selfless service was a challenge for me. Currently, I value my connections with customers and the modest contributions I can make to meet their expectations over a conventional job. In my role as a senior NCO, it was customary to prioritize the needs of others. As in the past, I will continue to serve where I can make a difference in the lives of others.
