We founded our company out of a passion for building. Having worked for a general contractor, we found conventional building uninspiring. We observed significant waste, inefficiencies in homes from the start, toxic substances, and a lack of lasting quality. Our vision was to establish a company that we could be proud of. In March 2008, we founded Santa Cruz Green Builders, focusing on building homes and workspaces that are better for the environment and their occupants.

Spencer Keenan earned his degree in Industrial Design from San Francisco State. The program provided him with the skills to transform concepts into completed projects and to address issues that come up along the way. These skills, along with the beauty of California's central coast and his desire to create, inspired him to enter the field of green building in Santa Cruz.

Co-owner Taylor hails from the island of Kauai and has always been passionate about construction. At 8 years old, he created his first project, a tree fort built from salvaged materials, which included a drawbridge, bedroom, screened porch, and garage. After graduating from UCSC with a degree in politics, Taylor continued to explore his building interests by working under a general contractor in Santa Cruz. He became increasingly inspired and motivated by green building practices. As a Certified Green Building Professional, Taylor now integrates his knowledge and experience into all our projects.
