In 1956, Lloyd and his family left their farm in Colorado for Culver City, California. At the start of his plumbing career, he worked two jobs to support his family. By night, he loaded Carnation milk trucks, and during the day, he worked as a plumbing apprentice. Lloyd earned his contractor's license in 1965 and relocated to Thousand Oaks to start Lloyd's Plumbing.

In 1980, Ed succeeded Lloyd as the head of the business after Lloyd's retirement. Ed aspired to be the best while ensuring a high level of professionalism. He implemented clean vehicles, uniformed staff, helpful customer service representatives, and a “we can handle anything” mindset for the company.
