Western was established in 1948 by Arthur Liles and Mr. Bowie in the region of West Jefferson, which is how we are called Western. The founders were both worked as service technicians at Alabama Gas before starting the company. The primary focus of the company was gas heating. AC setup and service was added as a major function of the company in 1958. In 1955, Mr. Liles took over as the only owner of the business. He led the business until his death in 1972. He transferred the company to his wife Myrna and his three. Sid led the business until his departure in 2015, at which point he turned it over to his colleague Josh Durden. Mr. Durden had been with Western since 2012 and endeavors to manage it with the same focus on honesty and excellence that has driven Western to thrive since 1948.

My name is Josh, and I have been with Western since 2011. I entered the HVAC industry when I began assisting my father in his company at the age of 13. After completing high school, I was employed during the summers for a local HVAC contractor in Tuscaloosa while I attended Shelton State and then the University of Alabama, where I earned a degree in Marketing. After completing college, I worked for two HVAC and plumbing distributors, which provided me with insight into how both sides of the business functioned and what separated the good contractors from the bad ones.

I believe treating my team with fairness, being truthful with everyone, and having pride in high-quality work. We are not a high-pressure sales company, and we never make a customer's decision for them.
