Update: I am now a homeowner and nine months in, I had a sewer pipe episode three days before my family was about to descend upon my house for our first Thanksgiving in the new crib. That was looking iffy at best (as was my prospects for a shower lasting longer than two minutes).

Nasty, smelly water was coming up from under our downstairs toilet. Greg came right over to see if he could determine the issue. He also came again the next day when he had more time to try to fix it (and a bigger snake). Unfortunately, the snake was coming up shiny -- I learned this was a sign of pipe breakage (snake travels through gravel, gravel scrapes off the grime). Greg will explain what he's up to every step of the way and what you're up against. In this case, he had to go under the house to the scary little crawl space with a small shovel to see if he could get to the breakage. When he determined the broken pipe segment was too deep to be accessed by one person, he put down the shovel and picked up his phone. It was at this point I learned how well-networked he is.

The first specialist he called came right over with a high-tech camera. It was inconclusive to determine the location of the break, but did confirm there was one. Next up was a call to the ""digging plumbers"" who came the next day with little shovels, found the breakage and fixed it in under five hours.

My experience with all the specialists he called in was great, the issue got fixed and Thanksgiving was saved. Even though he spent two afternoons at my house, he didn't charge me anything close to his normal rate on the premise that he couldn't fix it himself (it was the first time I ever argued with someone to charge me more). He called to follow up a few days later to make sure everything was A-OK (a sign of total class in my book).

Now, if you are new to this owning a home thing like me, you may be thinking, if he couldn't fix it himself, why the glowing review? It's a bit like a medical practice. Your primary care physician calls in specialists, why shouldn't your plumber? Greg seems to get the notion that you are the company you keep and those good relationships helped save our holiday. I am hugely grateful.

Since my experience with homeownership is that sh** happens (this time, literally), it's good to have someone you trust on speed dial. He's great in an emergency, and no matter how miserable you're feeling in the moment, he will make you laugh.

I have called York plumbing twice and left voicemails regarding a plumbing problem at my condo. The first time I called was a few weeks ago. I never got a response, but since they have such great reviews I thought maybe they were just really busy that week and I would give them another chance. I called again this week and I have yet to get a call back. The voicemail says ""all calls will be returned."" Not true in my case. Maybe Greg is a great plumber when he actually calls you back and shows up, but I guess I'll never know.

Greg is my new plumber. My initial experience with him was excellent. He worked for me over the course of several days, always arriving on time. He explains what needs to be done, does it, and then cleans up before he leaves. No drama. No BS. I couldn't be happier.

I can't say speak highly enough of this plumber Greg.

I called with a fully stopped up bathtub. No water going down at all. I asked for a quote and he gave me a very reasonable one. He showed up in less than an hour. Wow I said to myself for speedy response.

The age of the plumbing and the restrictive angles of the pipes made it so he would have to remove a pipe joint in the cellar to run a snake down the pipe.

He tried that but because of the pipes being so old he had to do extensive work far beyond just snaking the pipe. He had to replace a bunch of piping as well. He worked very hard for several hours and completed the job perfectly.

Despite the fact that he had to do all this extra work he still kept his charges very competitive to say the least.

I HIGHLY recommend this plumber.

EDIT - 6-5-14 - Had Greg come again for a different plumbing issue, to replace a faucet in very older model sink that needed to be custom ordered because of model age. Initially said the ordering process for the parts would be 3 weeks. Next day after searching around he found one instantly. Good job Greg.

He removed the sink as well as the stop valves underneath the sink which also needed to be replaced. Ran into some issues because of how the stop valves were initially installed but Greg handled that no problem. Again, he charged a very reasonable price and did great work. HIGHLY recommended.

EDIT - 3-25-16

Had Greg come in for another clogged sink in the main bathroom. Not only did he clear the clog he also noticed that the quality of the pipes under the sink were sub par. So he went to the local plumbing supply warehouse picked up some new piping and installed it while at the same time keeping the charges VERY reasonable. Another great job again. HIGHLY recommend him. Fun easygoing guy to talk to as well.

I contacted York Plumbing after I received a ridiculous quote from another company.

First off, communication with Greg is outstanding. He is very prompt to call you back and keeps you updated on timing right up until he shows up for your apt.

He worked very fast and was professional. His rate was also very fair. I will absolutely use York Plumbing again and happily refer him to any friends and family.

This guy was awesome! I didn't have an emergency by all means, but he called me back AND showed up the same day to take a look at the problem. Its VERY difficult to find someone reliable and not scummy in this area, and I think I found that person.

Anyways...the job was completed the quickest I've ever seen and at a decent price. Hopefully I can have him as my 'go to' plumber.

Greg was one of the best residential contractors I have ever worked with. I am a bit handy myself but when a plumbing repair become over my head, I decided to make those dreaded contractor phone calls. I emailed Greg on a Sunday evening and within a few hours he had emailed me back with his availability for the week. After a short discussion on the phone, he made himself available within a day. Also, he was awesome to work with, his rate are SO reasonable, and he showed up right on time. I will be calling Greg for all my plumbing and gas fitting needs for years and years to come. Please call him. I promise you, you will not regret it!

I will be calling Greg at York Plumbing and Drains every time I have a plumbing issue for the rest of my life! I had a disgusting situation where everything that went down the kitchen sink came up into the bathtub. After calling several plumbers who kept canceling my appointments and stressing me out, I called York. Greg came the same day, was extremely friendly and got everything fixed at an extremely reasonable price. He was awesome and even sings to himself while he works! He even cleaned up after himself! Amazing! I would recommend Greg highly and have already stored his number in my phone as my main plumber.

We have used York Plumbing the last 2 years and have been really pleased with the service. He has fixed toilets, sinks, faucets, shower heads, installed sub pumps and the list goes on. We have not had to wait long for a job as he had done everything in a timely fashion. Not only that he is very knowledgeable but I would also go so far as to say passionate about plumbing. He explains everything to the customer in layman terms so that you do not feel like you are being taken advantage of. I would definitely refer him and have done so in the past.

I called York Plumbing after finding a leak in the basement that was coming through the floorboards. Greg was cordial on the phone, told me he would call back in an hour when he was finished with the job he was currently working on. He called when he said he would, showed up at my place when he said he would, was very pleasant and nice, and got right down to the problem. He found the source of the leak (and didn't make fun of me for not being able to find it myself as it was not exactly as hidden as I thought) in just a couple minutes. He fixed it quickly and charged me a lot less than he originally said it would cost. If ever I need a plumber again, I'll be calling Greg!
