Recommended Customer Reviews

I called Whipple out because my water softener had developed a leak. The tech was young, clean, and courteous, which was the only good thing about the experience. He examined the holding tank and told me it was not repairable, then charged me $1800 to replace the entire unit.
Many times what the job should have cost, when a simple o-ring replacement would probably have fixed the problem.
My own fault for being gulled, but these folks are masters of the over-sell, and don't know what a cheap, honest service call is.

I would NEVER USE WHIPPLE again and would not recommend them to anyone. I do not usually write reviews, but I am a senior citizen who was ALSO SCAMMED. I made the mistake of trusting they would be fair, honest and upfront about costs. I did not get other bids in advance and suffered the consequences. They are very smooth talking, deceptive and overpriced. They never gave me a reliable quote or a statement of real costs after completion. Other companies told me they charge two to three times what any other company does.
The reason I called them was to clear a clogged drain in the furnace room. Adam arrived and promised to give me a discount if I signed up for the Club Membership for $20 a month, so I did. He used a black and white camera which showed I had corrosion and tree roots in my sewer line with places where the pipes had slightly slipped out of alignment. Aaron arrived the next day with a bigger color camera to confirm the need for the liner. He said they would only charge about $500 to fix my drain, if I arranged to have the liner installed, so I made arrangements. They planned to dig a hole six feet out from the house in my front yard and install clean out pipes in my garden. The hole would be about 8 feet deep, 4 by 6 feet wide and would cost $8,000 to $16,000 for 50 feet of liner. The landscaping would be removed and then replaced. Aaron offered to get me a new Gerber toilet for the upstairs bathroom to seal the deal and settled on a price of $10,000.
That afternoon, Adam took about 2 hours to jackhammer out my floor, put in a 12"" pipe and a new drain, which should have cost about $60 in parts, plus $200 max for labor. He admitted he was usually on the DIG TEAM and had never used a jackhammer or mixed cement before. There were pieces of cement sprayed five feet out from the drain in every direction that he left for me to clean up. He bent back the metal edging on the carpet and now it will not lay flat. The cement is very rough with coarse gravel visible on the surface and he charged me $1476. In shock, I signed the IPAD, which cleaned out my checking account.
The next day I came to my senses and cancelled the Membership and the future destruction of my front yard. I got bids from other companies ranging from $7,000 to $9,000. I hired ROTO ROOTER at the lowest price and they did a great job. The 18"" by 26"" hole next to the inferior work done by Whipple, included 75 feet of liner, a smooth professional cement finish and a lifetime guarantee. They also used a color camera and had a City Inspector come before and after the work was completed to make sure it was done correctly. I contacted Whipple and spoke with their public relations person about their ridiculously high prices and their very unsatisfactory work. I asked for $900 back, so they sent me a check for $300 a month later. Like I said, I will never use Whipple again. This was an expensive lesson and I plan to let the Better Business Bureau know that they target and take advantage of Senior Citizens.

I will NEVER use Whipple ever again. I had a clogged sink this past weekend, I tried to snake it a few times myself but it kept coming back up after a couple days. I googled Whipple and they had awesome reviews so I called them up to make an appointment, the girl who answered the phone was friendly and helpful and offered a ""special"" for $50 out the door for a 200 foot auger. I said perfect, let's do it!
I received a text that a technician was on his way, an hour an a half later he shows up and I was immediately put off by his tone and condescension. I explained to him the history of the situation he looked in my crawl space and told me I had cast iron pipes on my kitchen line and explained that the house was 70 years old, 70 years of build up. Made sense, ok let's try the snake. The first thing he told me is that there is no 200 ft auger (as advertised) he had a 25 ft. and a 100ft. He tried the 25 foot one for about 3 minutes with no actual force and said my pipes have been rusted shut and needed to be replaced, he'd ""seen it a million times"".
I asked how much this would cost to replace the pipe and he quoted me over $1500 to replace the pipe with 2' ABS plastic piping with a 10 year warranty. I was visible pissed as I was told this would be $50 out the door and now it's $1500 when you have barely tried the snake? His camera was also conveniently broke the job right before us so we couldn't see what was really going on. He gave us payment plan options and offered the yearly service for a 15% discount. We were looking at 18-month payment options!
Long story short, the next day a friend of mine who flips houses came over to look at it. Not only did he laugh at the initial amount quoted he said this clog could have been broke by a snake but we replaced the pipe anyways for a whopping $40 in less than 2 hours!!!!!
Whipple preys on the ignorant people that don't know anything about plumbing and try and take advantage of you at every turn. They never charged me the $50 for the snake but that means nothing to me when you try and take advantage of innocent families who have a simple problem. I would have been happy to pay the $40 for parts and $200-$300 for labor but when you try and overcharge a customer by $1500 I don't understand how you can sleep at night. Your not a doctor or a lawyer, your time is not worth $700/hr. This may be a one time thing but to me this place is a scam, there is a reason they all have shiny brand new trucks around the city. DO NOT TRUST THEM! DON'T USE THEM. IF YOU DO GET A SECOND OPINION!

Whipple evaluated our AC compressor when it quit working. They promised us the fix would cost half the price of a new compressor. That degraded into a story about how whoever installed the refrigerant line didn't install it properly. One catastrophic pitch after another, they had me convinced to buy a new AC compressor, water heater, and furnace. They described the systems as the ""Mercedes"" of HVAC systems. After they installed the system (fraudulently, without a permit from the city which I had to pull to get an inspector out), my brother who worked for an industrial HVAC engineering company came in and began to list off all the things they did wrong. A handyman neighbor of mine corroborated what my brother said about all the corners that Whipple cut in the installation. Three service calls later, the city inspector finally blessed off on the installation. Long and short of it, I could have purchased the same system for nearly half the price without the headache of dishonest salesman and lazy or inept installation techs... oh, I mean (self-proclaimed) service champions.

Whipple came to fix my furnace. They went out of their way to find problems that weren't problems. During the inspection they found a tiny amount of rust on the heat exchanger. There was no crack or problem in the heat exchanger. They wouldn't fix the original problem, a broken ignitor, unless I paid $3000 to fix the heat exchanger that wasn't a problem. I have CO gas monitors and I know there is no CO leaking in my house. They prey on uninformed homeowners by saying the furnace isn't safe in order to increase the bill by 10x.
Do not allow Whipple to enter your home

Whipple took advantage of my family and I. We paid for their $20 a month service, so in the summer they came to do a routine check, and they told us we needed a completely new system. I said no, and told them we would wait. Then once winter came around our heater suddenly wouldn't work. Thinking that was bizarre we called another company, we found out a hose had been disconnected, and all it needed was a zip tie, not a whole new unit. I think they tried to take advantage of a women, tried to sell me on things we didn't need.

Just had Royal come out to the house to fix a couple of stubborn gas leaks. He was the best. friendly, wearing a smile and took care of the leaks in no time at all. My experience with Whipple has been outstanding. What other company do you know that arrives with their own large floor mats and booties???
Love this company

I scheduled an appointment to have an electrician come out, to rewire an outlet and a light switch, received a confirmation email, the day before, but had to CALL the office to find out they had cancelled our appointment that day because other jobs had ""come up"". My appointment had been scheduled for almost a week, and the person who I spoke with was not kind UNTIL I told them I would find another company to do business with. Unprofessional and definitely did not make me feel like my business was needed or important.
UPDATE:
After posting this review, I was contacted by Whipple. After a good conversation, I rescheduled my appointment to have the needed electrical work done. This experience was the experience I was hoping for when Whipple was recommended to me. They were there when they said they would be, were informative, helpful, and got the work done in a timely and efficient manner. I am glad I was able to speak to someone and actually utilize their fine service. Thanks Whipple!

Thank you for a great job! Backed up mainlines are misery and your promptness was appreciated.

Be sure to get multiple quotes before signing - even if you have to miss the ""once in a lifetime, extra special, only for you discount"".
The diagnostic tech did a good job. He explained what was wrong and the options (nothing, band-aid, or replace) and why they were the options. In retrospect (3 days), the ""field supervisor"" wasn't pushy per se, but really wanted us to sign ""today"" so we could get an additional discount.
Their quote was $5,000 less than the first company for an 80%/16 seer, but I wish I had waited because the third quote for a Rheem system (92%/16 seer) was another $4,000 off.
I'm out 4-grand I didn't have to be. Learn from my mistake and don't sign on the first day these guys come out.
