Very impressed with these guys....came out quick...repaired per the estimate over the phone...and were gone before I knew it. Would definitely use them again.

They will rip off and be rude about it. I should have checked them out before using them.
They came to repair my hot water heater. It still does not work after they came back a second time. Now they want to charge me $159 to just come and replace my 6 yrs old water heater which I will have to buy.
All of this is not the end of the world. What is so bad, is the disrespect over the phone from Matt, the ""this is the only way I will do it"" if I do not talk to my husband first. They are not professional and I won't call them again or refer them. Get quotes from other companies!

I gave them 4 stars because they honored my 1 year repair/labor warranty.
we have them fixed our water heater this Feb, and they gave us 1 year warranty for the same problem. and this week, our water heater failed us again. Water heater Specialists send someone this morning on Sunday to us and he finished his job in 15 mins without a fee because they honored the 1 year warranty.

My bad that I didn't see this company's reviews on Yelp before getting involved with them.
Our heater was leaking on Wednesday, Oct 14, 2015. My wife was very upset and called me to come home from my volunteer work and take care of it. Not knowing any better, I called the number on the yellow sticker for someone to come out ($159.00 minimum charge). Since this was the same company (I thought) that installed the current heater (in 1993!, a Rheem), for $499, I thought they would be capable and reliable. When the installer arrived, he immediately said I needed a new heater and other items to bring the installation up to ""2015 Code"". He quoted a price of $2348.00!! At that point I should have told him to scram and I would shop around, but in our panic to get our hot water supply back on line, I told him to go ahead and replace the heater. He did an adequate job and left the installation neat and clean, in about 2 hours. He installed a bargain-grade heater (6-year guarantee). He wanted cash or check (credit card would be a 3% surcharge (illegal?). He did give me a $50 Senior and $50 Veteran's ""discount"", but that had little effect on the atrocious charge for this service.
I checked 3 legitimate plumbing services listed in the Diamond Certified book after he left, something I should have done before he arrived, and asked them what a water heater replacement job usually costs. They each gave me rough estimates in the $1300 to $1600 range, with full explanations of what needed to be done. I have since tried to contact W.H. Specialists several times, and either got no answer or ""the manager is out and would return my call"". I never got a return call (surprise!).
I agree with the Yelp reviews of Bhushan J., 6/24/2015, Monty W. (10/16/2015), and others - this is a company that will rip you off if given the opportunity (a customer that doesn't do his homework and is desperate).
Be aware and be prepared!

They are rip off artists. They seem to do a professional job, but charge WAY too much. I idiotically paid $2,000 for what should have cost $600-$1,000. I am shaking my head at how dumb I was not to yelp first or to check prices. It's the classic situation where these guys take advantage of the fact that you want to replace the water heater ASAP.

These guys have horrible customer service and shady business practices. They charge you $150 just for them to come to your house, even if they don't actually do any work at all. It's a total ripoff move. Not only that, they overprice their work and don't really care about their customers. They just take advantage of people in desperate need of repairs just to make a dollar. Never call or you will regret it! Stay away.

We had a wonderful experience with Water Heater Specialist. Ryan arrived on time and was very clear as he explained everything. We needed a new water heater and it was installed in a timely manner. The only reason I didn't give a 5th star is the price was on the high side.

Rip off company! Do not do business with them! They have already changed their name once because of so many bad reviews. They came out to our house to fix our water heater. Wanted to charge us $900 for what we found out was a $200 job from another reputable company. They told us the water heater was out of warranty, but it was not. Then they took our good parts and refused to return it without us paying their $159 service call fee. This was all after screwing around with them for 3 days and them bringing the wrong part.

Never call them. I suggest you look for another local reputable company in your area.

Our water heater sensor was out, so we called for a estimate. It's $159 just for them to come out and diagnose the problem + parts if you choose for them to fix it. Our total came out to be $318. If you pay by card, there's a 3% processing fee. So have cash ready. Overall, it was an good experience. Ryan was the tech, he was a nice guy, came in - told us what's wrong, the price and once we agreed, he got it done in 15 minutes and we had hot water again shortly after. Thanks Ryan! :-)

This is my first ever review on Yelp. I felt lied to by these guys which is why I am writing this. The guy on the phone told me that my the issue with my water heater was common and that it would cost $159 to fix. I told him that was fine and we made an appt.

The maintenance person showed up and said that the diagnostic cost was $159 and that there was an additional cost of $159 for fixing the part that had gone out. I called up the owner and he gave me this mumbo jumbo explanation about overhead being so high and drivers and paying for him to answer the phone which is why the cost was so high for a 15 minute job. I asked him why they were not up front with their price and he basically told me I was lying and that this was never what was told to me. I had even gotten a diagnostic done by PG & E so they did not have to do any diagnosis as he was claiming.

Basically these guys are crooks!!! Save your money and call around even if you are in a bind. I think they get you because they know you cant do without the hot water. next time I will call around a bit.
