Josh G.Martin did a great job installing our tankless hot water heater. Everything in our 1929 house is always a painful project, but Martin handled all of my house's ""difficulties"" and came up with solutions to make everything look and work great for us. He is a great communicator, answering all of my questions in less than 24 hours. I will be using Washtenaw Pumbing in the future and would highly recommend.
Martin went above and beyond for our plumbing needs. He installed a kitchen faucet and fixed a couple toilet issues. The same day we were having a new hot water heater installed by another group. They said there were issues and they couldn't accommodate. Martin saw that there was a problem and jumped in to help us out. He came to our home on a Saturday and sacrificed family time to help a guy out. He did a great job and cleaned up thoroughly. I will ALWAYS call Martin and Washtenaw Plumbing in the future. Customer service was 5 star!
Ryan H.We hired Washtenaw Plumbing and Heating to install a toilet because the cast iron flange needed to be replaced. Martin got back to us quickly and scheduled an appointment for a few days away.
Cameron showed up to do the job. He was very confident and said it would be no problem until he saw the toilet, a Toto Aquia 2, which has smooth sides and uses a different mechanism than the usual bolts to hold it down. When he saw it, he said it would take longer than he initially thought because he had never installed one like that before.
We were a little annoyed that our bill went up because of the plumber's self-described inexperience. Martin explained that it's just more difficult to install a toilet like that, and we decided it was worth the $600 or so they would charge us. Cameron did a great job installing the toilet. He did leave a mess of iron shavings and wood in the basement below where he did the work.
A couple weeks later, the countertop is installed and we now need our sink plumbed and installed. It's a vessel sink that sits on top of the counter, and we explained that to Martin when we made an appointment so it wouldn't be a problem. I even sent a spec sheet on the sink and the faucet, along with a photo of the countertop with the sink and faucet mocked into position.
Cameron comes to install the sink, and when he sees what's required, he asks my wife, ""How do I attach the sink to the countertop?"" That's very disconcerting, because we hired them to know that and do it right. I wasn't home so my wife called me and asked what to do. We agreed that Cameron shouldn't do the work until he had gone over the job with Martin. It was going to be another $500, and we wanted to make sure it was done right.
My wife told Cameron how happy we were with the toilet and explained that we'd prefer he talk to Martin first before he did the work. He acted a little defensive, saying ""I'm a master plumber,"" and explaining that if he did the job it would be done right. She made sure he had a code to get into the house, and he left abruptly.
I followed up with Martin on the phone, who said he didn't have time to go over the job with Cameron in detail, but that he should have known how to do it. He also said Cameron was embarrassed that we were hesitant to let him to do work, and that Martin would have to come do it himself. I asked when the soonest he could come was, because I was expecting to have a sink, and he said he would call me back in the afternoon.
I got home in the early afternoon and hadn't heard from Martin. I also found that the water was off to the whole house. Annoyed that Cameron had not turned it back on, I did so myself. When I did, I found that water was pouring into my basement from the bathroom because Cameron had left the sink valves open! I had had them closed because they weren't attached to a faucet.
In my mind, a Master Plumber should leave the house in a way that it can be used, offended though he may have been. It wasn't our fault that for a second time, he didn't know how to do the work we hired him to do. We shouldn't have had to deal with a flooded bathroom for the sake of his ego. We had just installed new linoleum floor and a hand-made cabinet. Cameron's mistake could have cost us all of that work.
I was furious, and I called Martin right away. I explained what happened and asked him to call me back to make things right. It's been over a week, and still no word from Martin. In my message, I was clearly very angry and I said the phrase ""flooded my fucking bathroom,"" so maybe he thought he didn't owe me a call because I was rude.
TLDR - This company is expensive, and we had 2 bad customer-service experiences with Cameron, who expressed doubt in his ability to do the jobs and took it personally when that made us uneasy.
Was just rescued by the nicest & most helpful plumber I've ever used. I had a sink leak and a running toilet, I called Washtenaw Plumbing and they came the next morning. Took care of both issues completely & efficiently. Martin (company owner) and his assistant Connor were personable, professional, patient. They cleaned up completely. AND the cost was Very Reasonable. I loved working with them & will be calling them in the future as well as recommending them to anyone who needs a plumber. Very nice guys. Job well done!!
Thanks...... Elizabeth in Saline
I had a ""simple"" plumbing job that turned into one problem after another. Martin and Kyle not only fit me into their busy Friday afternoon, but they stuck with the job until we were both satisfied with the result. They were pleasant and professional the entire time. I would highly recommend them, and would use them again if I have any plumbing issues in the future.
Charyl H.Martin and his son, Kyle put in an electric water heater and installed our sink drain and faucet yesterday. I can't say enough positive remarks about their work, professionalism and knowledge. Our water heater cord going to the breaker was 60 plus years old and when Martin noticed that the cord may not be safe, he made sure we got it fixed before he turned on the water heater after his install. He got it set up for the electrician to just fix the cord so all we had to do is flip our on the breaker and we had hot water. Without his experience knowledge, we could have had a true disaster and were in grave danger of fire or the ruination of our brand new water heater. I will always recommend Washtenaw Plumbing and Heating. The price was astoundingly fair and we thank you Martin and Kyle!
There's a difference between a guy who just earn's money as a plumber and a professional plumber. Martin was the 5th plumber I've had at my house in the last 9 years or so. Instead of repairing a burst pipe, he FIXED THE SOURCE of the problem and changed the grade of the pipe. This was for an outdoor spigot that kept freezing because it didn't drain properly. You'd think the previous 4 plumbers would have seen that, but they didn't. Then he repaired my irrigation system. This guy is a consummate pro who knows plumbing, has excellent skills, and a very wide range of knowledge. Martin is the kind of professional plumber you HOPE will show up when you're looking for help, good prices, and expert workmanship. I never knew him from Adam but I sure got lucky calling him. He's neat and very personable too. Martin, just between me, you, and the fence post, you're a 6-star plumber. I'll call you next time I need anything. Thank you so much!
Shannon K.Rude person answered phone. When they didn't have an appt for several days I said I would need to have a different plumbing service come to my house, and he went into a rant about ""not having guys just sitting around waiting for a call"".
Otto M.I had a backed up sewer line in the basement in February. Martin and his assistant came over the same day. The drain was cleared (temporarily). In April it was backing up again. Martin said he couldn't guarantee it that long (two months) so I called RotoRooter. I paid for a camera to be run through the line and discovered that a NARROW path was carved by Washtenaw Plumbing but it needed to be carved with a larger blade, which I then paid Roto Rooter to do the right way. I was not happy with Washtenaw Plumbing and will not use them again for anything.
We had a leak in our pipe going out to our drain field. Martin came over within half an hour and rearranged his schedule to get the job done the same day. His work was impeccable, like an artist. His prices were very reasonable. I definitely recommend this company.
