I was up late one evening and kept hearing a whistle in the corner of my room. I went to check it out and it was the gas line. A gas leak ! Very dangerous problem, luckily caught it in time. The gas company immediately cut off the gas. Vigilante did the repair. They were very professional & efficient. No more whistling. Phew!

I had a plumbing emergency earlier today. Vigilante came quickly and the young man they sent was professional, polite, and competent! He answered my questions before I asked them. He diagnosed the problem, took appropriate prophylactic steps and made the necessary repairs. A very impression young professional!

$692 to snake a drain? $100 for a washer? I think not. A common theme in other reviews has been this company's high prices and I add my experience to the litany of complaints about their prices. I've used them for years, but will no longer do so.

But I did call you, Sal. I told you that even if I purchased the most expensive sink trap and tailpiece (like a Delta brand) at Home Depot, the parts would have only cost about $75 and you (or your employee) responded that my tenant had the chance to see a quote and could have chosen not to do the work. I pointed out that typically a contractor would mark up their materials by 20-30%, not 4-500%. I asked how you could possibly sleep at night taking advantage of people in this manner, and you told me that the tenant had already written you a check and that you werent going to adjust the cost. You stated that you were a private, family run business around for many years and that this wasnt a government contract and you could charge whatever you want. So Sal, if youre going to run your business like this, preying on people like my tenant that may not know the cost of plumbing materials at Home Depot and have the choice to pay or be standing in grey water, then come on this site and just say it. ""Here at Vigilante Plumbing, we know how to do plumbing using NYC licensed plumbers, we know how to do the work and will respond in a reasonable time frame, but it will cost you 4-5x what it should.""

These guys are criminal quoting 4x market rate. Need sink connections done for a kitchen which would take an hour and they quoted $900. Also they don't guarantee their labor. Sketchy....

I came to Yelp.com this morning because I wanted to find Vigilante Plumbing's phone number. I was shocked to see that Vigilante Plumbing has an overall rating of 2.6 stars. When I started to read the reviews, I wondered whether the rating and the reviews were about a different Vigilante Plumbing. To my big surprise, the rating and reviews were about the same Vigilante Plumbing that I wanted to hire to fix my water heater.
Because I hired Vigilante Plumbing before, I still decided to hire them again. If this was my first time trying to hire them, I probably wouldn't hire them because of the negative reviews that are posted about them. I truly would like to apologize to those who have had a bad experience using Vigilante Plumbing. (Btw, I don't work for Vigilante Plumbing. I'm just a satisfied customer.)
Including today, I have hired Vigilante Plumbing twice. The first time was for them to install my water heater. This was in November of 2022. The second time, which is today, it was for them to service it because it stopped working.
I called them this morning, and they dispatched a technician to my house in the afternoon. Rafael arrived within the appointment window. He was accompanied by Jose, whom he introduced as his apprentice. Before entering the house, Rafael started to put on disposable shoe covers because he didn't want to dirty the floor. I told him not to worry about it because there's construction taking place in the house. Also, before entering the house, he made sure to confirm my identity, the job site, and the reason why they came. Once they were inside the house, he asked about the location of the unit. As he was inspecting the unit, I was telling him what the issue was by responding to his questions. Then, he got up, and started to tell me what he was going to do. He explained everything he was going to do before he did it. Since the unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty, he called the manufacturer's customer support to clear a few things. Once that interaction was over, he explained to me what he was going to do, why he was going to do it, and what the expected outcome was. Before doing what he was planning to do, he quoted me the price, to which I agreed to with my signature. At that point, I left them alone to work their magic. I can't forget how happy the two of them were when their first suggested solution worked. What I understood, after speaking with them, was that they didn't want to come back for the same problem. Meaning that if the unit was not working because something had to be replaced, it would cost me more money. Meaning that even though the part that would have needed to be replaced was covered by the warranty, I would still need to pay labor on the work to be done. How thoughtful of them?
Based on my experience after having used Vigilante Plumbing twice, I definitely recommend Vigilante Plumbing to anyone who is looking for a company to either install or repair their water heater. I am limiting my recommendation to water heaters because this is the only area in which I have dealt with them.

All of the negative reviews are true. We had Vigilante install a backflow preventer in Brooklyn. They were very unprofessional and did not respect any timelines and/or standards for ensuring quality of work. We are actively trying to replace this backflow preventor now (which is totally encased in cement) and it has only been 2 years since Vigilante installed it. Please do not contact them for any work. I have already contact the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce to try to get their license revoked.

Very overpriced. They also were pretty unprofessional - we waited almost 6 months for them to start work we contracted for without initiating contact about what was causing the delay or giving us a projected start date; once the work started, they did not consistently let us know if and when they were coming; they tried to include an unnecessary add-on after we signed a contract; and they left garbage behind after the job was completed.

We've used Vigilante since 1994. They have always done a great job and their service people are top-notch. Vigilante is more expensive than most of the competition. A few times we tried a less expensive service and it was never quite up to Vigilante's standards. The only complaint is that they seem to come earlier than the appointed time. This happened a few times. This week my appointment was between 9:30 and 10:30, but they arrived at 8:40. I was in the shower and not quite ready. Not a big deal, better early than late. Next time I'll just plan to be fully ready an hour early, just in case.
