Our toilet developed a phantom flush. It would flush itself every 3-4 minutes. Not a full flush, just a bit and then refill. I knew what the problem was, I just couldn't source the part needed to remedy the problem.
After striking out at the hardware store, the plumbing supply shop and failing to solve the problem using a universal part, I decided to take the plunge (get it, the plunge?) and called Victor James Plumbing. They were local and I like to support local businesses.
They assured me they'd have the correct part for my toilet and explained they had a minimum service call charge. I was so tired of hearing the flushing that I was willing to pay $100+ for service call and part.
When they showed up (late), they fiddled with the toilet for 5 minutes and after a call to the boss (who evidently is the actual plumber (the two who showed up were only plumbing technicians), handed me an updated estimate-for replacing the entire toilet, to the tune of almost $900!!!
That was their solution to a problem that required a $10 part. So I sent them on their way agreeing to pay the minimum service charge (and kicking myself for providing my credit card number when I made the appointment).
I then discovered they charged almost $200 to my card (more than double the original estimate). Needless to say I wasn't having that. I called and complained and told them I was going to dispute the charge. After a rather unpleasant exchange, they agreed to issue a refund - still charging the minimum service charge. Later I found the part online for $12 including shipping and did the repair myself.
The take away? Either Victor James Plumbing has an inept plumber, or they are just crooks.

Did a great job replacing my hot water heater. Covered all of the floors to prevent any damage. Also a week later, they identified a billing error that would have cost me $700, and corrected it. This was really great, considering I would never have known.

I wish it were possible to give 10 stars!! These are great people to work with! We called a few places before deciding on these folks. Denise at the office was very kind from the moment she picked up the phone it didn't have the feel of a business call. First impressions matter to us and Denise really wanted to help! She was patient with us, informative and knowledgeable about the work that would need to be done. Matt, the plumber, was prompt and professional. He explained all the work that would need to be done prior to starting. He was in and out in a timely manner. Matt is truly a master of his craft. If there's anyone in the area I could recommend more than others it's Victor James Plumbing. One of our neighbors actually used them the same day we did.


P.s. I saw one review in here that gave them 3 stars for being a ""Trump Supporter""?! Are you KIDDING ME?! Just to be clear we voted the other way but that doesn't sway who we do business with. It shouldn't influence who we you business with either. Yelp should take that down.

Came home from work, heat not working at 8:30 Pm . Called the office, Jim (the owner) was out within 20 minutes. Seriously can you beat that? Don't use anyone else. Top notch service!

We had a bad leak there was water leaking from the ceiling in the room under the bathroom, looked like a disaster. The technician who came seem to be very experienced, he carefully measured everything to pinpoint the exact origin of the problem and repaired it with a lot of care and explained everything very clearly. Recommend this business and will use again in the future.

Jim(the owner) is a dishonest person, with no integrity. His plumber came out and used the standard pricing guide (designed by Jim) to give me a quote. Jim was unaware I received a price already from one of his guys, and came to my location upon his request. I thought he just wanted to size up the job before they started but he quoted me again! This time he was almost double what I was originally quoted by his company! I said, ""I was already quoted $800 by you guys a few days ago?"" He then said ""Ok that should work"".????? What was he trying to do here? He was trying to take me to the bank. He is extremely passive aggressive too. Since then his price has again gone up, and when my wife asked for an explanation he de-graded her and hung up the phone.He was an hour late for our appointment and when I confronted him about it and told him I didn't have much time because I was already late for work, he didn't even acknowledge what I said. Jim, the owner is extremely dishonest. It's unfortunate because I had small jobs done by his guys in the past and they do a good job, but I can't do business with owners like this. Beware of Victor James Plumbing owner, Jim. It's safe to say that eventually word will get out about him.

Excellent service by Victor. Able to get an appointment in less than a week. Courteous, explained work needed well, comfortable having him in my home. Did not compare prices but price given seemed reasonable. Performed work needed the same day. Would definitely use again.

The sewage drain was backing up in the back of my house and I called Victor James on a Saturday morning.. And they sent someone out just a few hours later to fix the problem. Victor James Jr was very courteous and quick in unclogging the drain. I really appreciated how they not only answered the phone on a weekend, but also were able to come out. I would definitely recommend them and will use them in the future!!

Sometimes you get more than what you pay for. My sewer line had a block and I asked a friend to recommend a plumber, and he recommended Victor James. It was a Saturday and while they were closed, I still got a live person, and that said they would have someone out a little after 8am Monday morning depending on traffic.

Not wanting to wait, I called Roto Router who could be out within two hours! Cost would be $385, less $40 from an online coupon. Person showed up and tried to clear it but said there was dirt and rock in my sewer so the pipe had broken and they would have to bring out a backhoe and replace the pipe for $4,800. Said they could start Monday first thing. I told them to hold off until Tuesday because I wanted a second opinion.

Two men from Victor James arrived at 8:04 am Monday morning as promised. One of them removed the vent cap, and stomped down the pipe that was sticking about 14"" above the ground until it was almost flat to the ground. He then took a shop vac and removed all the dirt and rock, and the problem was fixed! He said this happens all the time, a clog can force the vent pipe up, then dirt and rocks get in and really block. He said any decent plumber should know this. Total cost $149, total time 30 minutes. I was so happy I tipped them $100!

I am a big Victor James fan, and my question is was the Roto Router person just incompetent or were they trying to take advantage of me?

Last night was had leak which I thought was a cracked pipe. My wife called Victor James. The person walked her through the steps to figure out if this was an emergency or not. With her help the on-call plumber figured out the leak was not threatening. We had a short window this morning on when someone would be here. Jim showed up before the time given and he quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it within an hour! Low and up front pricing. Courteous associates. Fast and reliable service. I 100% recommend Victor James as the best plumbers in town.
