I needed a simple Stubout from an existing gas line for my gas grill. I have a borescope and through the fireplace I could see the black iron pipe was easily accessible beneath the deck and would require 6"" of black pipe and a tee joint and shutoff valve. Easy. Max cost for a job like this would be $500, tops. Small towns, $300 or less.

I was told the job needed to charge 4hrs minimum, which isn't uncommon for a small job. The parts were estimated high at $150 and the permit was $100. Then I was told there might need to be drywall work, so they quoted me worst case unnecessarily with the possibility of it being $300 less if that wasn't the case. Quote: $2153. Or around $1800 if it were less complicated. I don't know what plumber charges $400/hr for an apprentice or journeyman level job, but this was crazy. $200/hr would have been crazy and $1000+ cheaper.

I ended up doing the job myself for $60 in material with a basic pipe wrench, sealant and 2hrs of my time including a leak check. I don't know if this job was too small for them or if they saw the house/neighborhood and thought they could charge more. Just be sure to get more quotes if you're not familiar with what actually needs to be done and don't be afraid to walk away. They were responsive and Chris was friendly, but that doesn't justify charging 4x a reasonable price.

Our water heater died around 8am. Called Vern's and Chris was here by 10:30. He confirmed it wasn't worth the repair cost since it was 12 years old and we agreed to install a new one. Chris was back by 1pm and we had a new hot water heater by 3pm. Chris and his team were professional, knowledgeable and kind.

I don't normally leave reviews (and I'm a month or so late with this one), but it was great reviews that led me to this company. Our well pump and pressure tank both went out. I had a few big name companies from the area come out and they gave us astronomical quotes. I found Vern's plumbing, gave them a call and within an hour Chris and Brett were at the house. They were very professional and told me exactly what we needed without all of the extras like the other places. I was given a worst case estimate and a this is probably what it will be price. The worst case estimate was half of what the other companies had quoted. It was later in the afternoon so they came back first thing the next morning and started on the job. Within a few hours they had us back up and running. The final price ended up being cheaper than what the technicians originally thought. I was so grateful for their professionalism and attention to detail throughout the whole process. I truly felt like they cared about me as a customer and did not try to take advantage of me in a bad situation. If you are anywhere near the Warrenton area I highly suggest that you use this company.

I was looking for a local plumber and found Vern's. I am so glad that my first experience with them (related to sewage pump in basement) was a success. That led me to calling them when my well pump was struck by lightning. The crew came out and gave a thorough diagnosis of what we might find and a conservative estimate given I didn't know the exact depth of the well. They started the work and identified what needed to be done to put the well back into perfect working order with performance that exceeded what it was before the pump failure. It was a long day with hot weather, surprises in the well that needed attention, and a serious storm with lightning with heavy rains. Through it all the crew was professional, polite, and focused on getting water to the house before they left. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with the outcome! Thank you!

Really good company with a great team. They installed a whole house filtration system for my well water. They knew exactly what I needed, had the parts ready to install within a couple days, and did very clean job of putting in the system.
