When purchasing a house in Mt Airy last year the home inspection turned up issues with the HVAC, to wit the upstairs regesters were putting out minimal flow and there was a substantial difference in temperature between the two floors. My system has motors controlling dampers to the different levels to solve this problem. Van Sant came out, at the request of the Listing Broker, and certified that my system was in ""working order."" I knew this was false and called in another HVAC company for a second opinion. They determined that the motors controlling the dampers were defective and needed replacement. Van Sant continued to insist that the system was in ""working order."" Yes, I suppose if the standard is simply that the system operates at all, Van Sant was correct. Apparently pleasing the local Real Estate Brokers is more important to Van Sant that genuine system analysis and repair. Look elsewhere.

Lazy, with an attitude. That's my impression of a Van Sant plumber. I had them out over a year ago to do some work. For slow drains, they were too lazy to snake them. They told me to run hot water in them. Duh! When I call a plumber, it's because I want something better than home remedies. It would have been cheaper and more effective to buy some Drano or snake them myself, and that's what I ended up doing. All they were interested in was pushing their prepaid protection plan on me, which I was dumb enough to buy. But even though I had more plumbing problems, I never called them back because I figured I'd just get more poor service and a jacked up price to boot. That's Van Sant for you: arrogant, lazy plumbers who know they have your money and couldn't care less about doing a good job.

I purchased a brand new Winchester home and Van Sant was responsible for the plumbing and heating. The quality of their work is very poor. The master bathroom shower plumbing was not installed properly. Water leaked through the ceiling downstairs. The shower tile floor had to be ripped up to fix the problem. A bathtub in a different bathroom was not installed properly causing water to leak through the ceiling downstairs. I recently had an outdoor faucet pipe burst after winter while the water was turned off to the faucet and properly drained. The plumbing was installed with a bow in the line and there was no way for the water to escape. I would not recommend this plumbing company.

Utilized Van Sant for heating/air conditioning maintenance plan (residential) - 2 visits per year (spring/fall). Price for plan is competitive based on local businesses offering similar service. Professional, timely and knowledgeable staff. Possible area for improvement: customer outreach during contract cycle as a reminder to schedule service (i.e. email/phone call) not just yearly contract renewal.

We purchased a brand new air conditioner from this company just about a month ago. Within 2.5 weeks it wasn't working, and it took them nearly a week to come out and fix something they broke during installation. Now, another 2.5 weeks later, it is not working again!

While this company was referred by a friend, we decided to choose them to do the install mainly because they were the most affordable, though not the most thorough. Perhaps there is a reason why they are less expensive than other companies.

I am very unhappy and would not recommend them to anyone.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS!
They will always try to sell you the ""extended warranty"" which really only proves they are trying to cover themselves for the lack of service quality.
They have a salesman call you trying to sell you the 'next and greatest' item without the background knowledge of what your real needs are.
They portray themselves as a 'family oriented' company, NO WAY. They have the attitude of ""let me see how much I can get away with"".
We went with Gaithersburg Heating and Air Inc.
STAY AWAY FROM VAN SANT.

Very poor customer service. I had these guys come out for an estimate on some major plumbing work (~$5K) on my house. The two guys walked around noting what was needed. When they were ready to give me they estimate they were laughing and asked me to guess how much it was going to cost? This was not a guessing game to me. I wanted to know the cost estimate with labor and material breakdowns.

So I lead them out the door. This is no way to handle customer service.
