We hired Urban Equity Builders to remodel our kitchen, and we couldn't be happier with the results! Our kitchen had a lot of brick surrounding the oven and cabinets, which made the space feel smaller and darker. The team did an incredible job removing all of that and completely opening up the area. Now, our kitchen looks bigger, brighter, beautiful.

From start to finish, Chaz and his team professional, detail-oriented, and communicative. They stuck to the timeline, kept the workspace clean, and ensured every aspect of the remodel was completed with high-quality craftsmanship. ... worth noting, they handled everything ; demolition, construction, installation, electrical, and plumbing. Complete one stop shop for us.

Highly recommended

I needed a driveway done at our house in Windsor because I had a new teen driver and now needed an extra parking space. I contacted owner Charles and he had the driveway done within a week for a reasonable price. Very happy with the business and the turnout of the driveway and how it matched our existing driveway perfect. I would recommend him to anyone Looking for a similar service.

It is interesting that Urban Equity Builders is just now acknowledging these reviews from years ago.
Contacting the Contractors State Licensing Board was the correct thing to do. After hearing all the facts, the cslb arranged the arbitration hearing specifically because of the issues pertaining to this build. The arbitration judge, appointed by the cslb, found that Urban Equity Builders was negligent. The judge awarded the max amount available under the law. Truthfully, the judge awarded more than the maximum allowable amount. Urban Equity Builders chose to only pay the minimum amount and issued that check the day before the cslb would revoke their license for failing to do so.
Urban Equity Builders was NOT the only contractor willing to do the work within the specified budget. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of believing what Urban Equity Builders promised and signed the contract.
Regarding Urban Equity Builders comment that they do not know who some of the reviewers are. I am sure that Urban Equity Builders does not recognize the homes in the pictures provided in the ""unknown"" reviews, right? Maybe some reviewers are concerned about lawfare?
The comment Urban Equity Builders made on the SB review is comical. SB was the lead contact at the architectural firm that designed the structure which Urban Equity Builders agreed to build. SB was, and still is, an invaluable resource when it involves house remodels. rebuilds, or helping the community as a whole. In my opinion, the fact that Urban Equity Builders stated that someone who is the main contact at the architectural firm is overly concerned, or overly involved, demonstrates Urban Equity Builders lack of integrity or common sense. I suppose Urban Equity Builders does not want anyone scrutinizing their work.
Yes, that structure was sold shortly after I spent well over tens of thousands of additional dollars correcting the multiple remaining issues and inadequacies. I sold it because I never felt like it was ""home"" as is claimed. It was a constant reminder of the nightmare that Urban Equity Builders created, which I had to live with every day while I was residing in it.
Please do your due diligence when hiring contractors. Don't get burned twice.

Awesome job remodeling our bathroom. They finished within the time they gave me, helped us secure all the materials we needed, and just did a fantastic job. My mother is now comfortable staying at our house now that she feels we have a clean space for her lol. Thank you UEB!

First of all, I will say Charles Olpp and his amazing crew took such good care of us, they not only did the landscape of our dreams but they had an even bigger vision and I can't thank them enough for bringing it to life.

Amanda that gave such a great review is the owners business partner and girlfriend so take that in to account when reading her review. Urban equity did shoddy work on my house and never actually finished. We spent almost 2 years waiting for a final and living on a temporary occupancy permit. We couldn't get any response until the city got involved and took action against them for abandoning jobs. I'm glad to be rid of them even if they didn't finish. The stress of dealing with Chas was not worth trying to hold them to the contract.

We used Urban Equity builders for our rebuild after losing our home in the 2017 Tubbs fire. Not only did Chas never finish the build (missing doors, unpainted rails, posts, doors, frames and baseboards, unfinished outdoor kitchen and fireplace, missing garage pergola, baseboards, and door jams, and more) but after less than 2 years the house is falling apart. We've had constant problems with plumbing. Faucets with hot and cold water reversed, toilet hooked up to hot water, shower drain not connected and water going directly under the house, 2 leaking toilets, inoperable tub drains...list goes on and on. Most recently we noticed a strange smell in the master shower only to discover the shower bench was constructed with all wood and non waterproof materials. Standing water was in the bottom of the bench and the interior of two walls were drenched with water and mold. I've attached photos and I expect that this will cost us substantially.
Meanwhile the kitchen and office cabinets are literally falling apart - toe kicks and cabinet siding falling down. Outside stone is falling off daily and gutter downspouts have fallen off the house. Doors don't shut properly, one not at all. Laundry room fan doesn't work, never did. The upstairs loft's floor is so squeaky that we rarely use it even though we communicated with Chas several times about it before the carpet was installed.
After begging Chas to complete the house and asking him to follow through with the home warranty guarantee, he has now disconnected his phone number and changed his email, leaving us to pay for the repairs and the house completion. What was supposed to be our forever home is now a money pit with so many deficiencies that we'll probably end up selling.
It's so difficult to lose a home to fire, but to fall a victim of a business such as UEB is such a disappointment. It's sad that people such as Chas are out there to take advantage of people during a low time in their lives, especially when we trusted him.
I rarely post reviews but wanted those out there to be aware. Chas does do a good job charming people into believing in him -we did. But he has no business trying to build houses.I wouldn't want anyone to go through the frustration we did or to end up with an unacceptable result like ours.

Unfortunately it seems like most of these Yelp reviews are personal vendettas or assumptions from media stories. I can only speak to our personal experience working directly with Urban Equity Builders which was fantastic.
We recently purchased and moved into an Urban Equity Builders home and love it! From our first walkthrough to now living in the space, they took care for every detail in both construction quality and design aesthetic. We met with Amanda Cream and Chas Olpp multiple times while we were visiting and purchasing the home and they were so accommodating and helpful, answering all of our questions, setting up multiple visits, and talking us through all their design and build choices and details.
We were also thrilled to purchase a home from a local business with young, ambitious entrepreneurs who think outside the box of traditional new home builds. They're also super nice and welcoming people. We're so excited to see them grow and watch what they build next!
We're loving living in our dream home and would recommend Urban Equity to anyone looking to purchase a new build, design your own or remodel. We look forward to the future when we may be able to work with them again!

I should've known better when he walked into my house wearing designer jeans too tight to even squat in that he wasn't a real contractor, but for some reason I looked past that. We hired them through Lowe's for a master bathroom remodel. We were quoted 4-6 weeks timeline. After 8 weeks, the project was not even halfway done. The shower had cracks on several tiles. They were only showing up to work maybe 2 days a week, and we wouldn't know if they were going to show up until the morning of. While Chas likes to flash fancy shoes and clothes around on his Instagram page, he should probably focus more on his business since a recent article in the Press Democrat documents complaints from many people attempting to rebuild in the Coffey Park area. Stay away from these people at all costs. They shouldn't be allowed to be in business.
