1 hesting zone stopped working. Charged 650 dollars to change a 50 dollar part amd wanted me to do the other one also even though it was working. Feel taken advantage of.

$600 to unclog a kitchen sink. It was a 10 minute job and the tone of the drain technician was upsetting. He lectured as if the drain was clogged intentionally.

Stay far away. If you call them for service, they see it as a sales opportunity force you into making a purchase of a new item. They were recently bought out and in meetings they were told to make sure to upsell new equipment rather than repair old equipment.

I was overcharged for replacing a shower faucet cartridge. The plumber inspected the leak and ask me to sign a quote for $600 - which he said would cover the labor for the removal of the old cartridge. He said he needs to melt it out with a torch and may take an hour or two to remove the old one. The $600 covers all labor and parts. I signed the quote. He open up the shower, removed the leaking cartridge and replace with a new one in 15 minutes. He stayed in the bathroom answering emails for 10 minutes because he was embarrassed - and when I confronted him - he said it came out easily - but still charged me $600 since I already signed the service agreement.

We called this company to repair our daikin mini split and they were completely incompetent in their service. The first technician they sent was not qualified to repair our unit as per Universe who finally sent another representative 4 days later who was also not a repair person but a salesperson. During a heatwave we still have a non working air conditioner and we've incurred a cost of $125 and received NO service. I DO NOT recommend this company.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Signed up for a service contract April 15, 2024 for $600 and have been scheduled for 3 appointments for maintenance and all were cancelled. Called up screaming and finally they are now coming.

They do not have enough people to service all of their contracts. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and get another company.

They falsely charged us $484 for unclogging a shower stall. The plumber was at my house literally for 5 minutes. In the receipt it said they clear a kitchen sink, basement sink and bathroom sink which was all UNTRUE!!! They ripped us off.
DONT USE THEM!!!!

Just as an intense heat wave was upon us our central air system stopped working. We contacted Nick from Optimum Mechanical - a wonderful trusted service company. But they were totally booked and couldn't come for several days. So, we contacted Universe Home Services. The next day they sent over a technician. The technician first checked the thermostat, then the air exchanger in the Attic. Within 5-10 minutes he diagnosed the problem. The evaporation exit piping had clogged and the overflow pan had filled, triggering the automatic power shut off. The technician then advised that he had to drain the overflow pan and advised it held almost 30 gallons of fluid. He asked me if I had a shop vac. When I told him that I didn't have a shop vac, he said he didn't know how he would drain the pan. Surely, he must have encountered this situation before. Anyway, I checked with a few neighbors and one was able to loan me their shop vac. I brought it back to the house and lugged it up stairs to the second floor hallway. The technician then advised that he didn't know if he could get the shop vac into the attic area. I came up with the idea that I could fasten 2 hoses together. The extended double hose could now reach the pan while the unit stayed on the hallway floor. The technician then commenced with draining the pan as I stayed in the hall monitoring the vac which filled rapidly with 16 gallons of mucky fluid.
Lucky thing I was monitoring the vac because the technician had no idea; it would have overflowed into the hallway. I shut off the vac and attempted to lift the now filled vac (16 gall of fluid approx 130lbs). I'm 76 and was unable to lift it, fortunately one of my sons was able to help me dump the muck into our 2nd floor bath - it was disgusting. I brought the empty vac back to the hallway and the technician proceeded to continue draining the pan. The vac filled with another 10 gallons or so which my son carried downstairs and to the outside. The technician advised that the air conditioner should now work - and it did. I'd like to believe the technician unclogged the main evaporation exit so this situation would not re-occur. When I asked how he would have drained the pan if I couldn't get a shop vac, the technician advised that draining the pan wasn't his responsibility. Mind blowing. After all that, where I did as much or more work then the technician, we were charged $444 plus tax for less than an hour service call. I have contacted Universe several times to attempt to get a partial refund on that crazy fee, but so far they have ignored my efforts. I would never recommend calling Universe for any service.

I have had a heating and air conditioning service contract with Universe for over 12 years and in the past they were always reliable. Unfortunately, that no longer seems to apply. My central a/c is acting up and when I called them on Monday for service I was told that the first available appointment was on Friday. That's five days in a forecasted heat wave without A/C. I was told that due to the current hot weather they were inundated with emergency calls and that, as a contract customer, I had ""priority"". I'd hate to see what the wait time is without priority. It just seems like a company that's in business to repair air conditioners should be prepared for extended periods of heat and staffed appropriately to handle the volume that occurs when the temps rise. Unless they can get back to me sooner, I'll be looking elsewhere when my service contract comes up for renewal.

Are there negative stars? I would not recommend this company. I had them in for an AC repair - they replaced a part that sells on Amazon for $20 and were in my home for 30 minutes - they charged over $600. We have left five messages to discuss this with someone in management and have never received a call back. Our next step is the Better Business Bureau which does have other complaints listed against them - all of a similar nature. Our mistake was not checking there first. Beware of this company.
