Sam did a small work for me before so following a recent slab leak and at the time when we are typically stressed, rushed and have not done our due diligence yet, I reached out to him to come check out where the leak is coming. He showed up next day with his tools and embarked on the ""leak detection"" journey. He started using his hammer to put holes in the walls here and there (three areas) and along the way, constantly nagging about how ""messed up"" or badly the original piping system design was. He also broke a picture frame as he started hammering the wall underneath the frame without bothering to take it out first. Whenever my mom would ask him a question, he would sarcastically or often in a rude verbiage or tone, address my mom as a non-expert and not knowing what she is talking about without really answering the question at all. And so far, I was still tolerating him not knowing what else I could do. Then he mentioned that one of the holes was apparently not necessary as he was taking his time to put holes in the wall to rule out possibilities. At last, he said the other end of the leaking pipe is in the garage near the heater so he wanted to start demolishing a wall in the garage. At this point I stopped him to ask for a second opinion without causing more damage as my patience threshold for his unprofessional attitude was almost up.
In the next days, 2 professional leak detection companies showed up and each detected the leak in a totally different area of the house. They used different tools, were knowledgeable and it took them less than 90 minutes to pinpoint the impacted areas. They were cutting the drywalls neatly with a Dremel and not in a sloppy manner like Sam, were super professional answering questions and all in the end.
Insurance eventually did not cover the extra two holes that Sam created (deemed irrelevant) so I ended up paying out of pocket to patch those drywalls and paint over them after.

I called Sam and not only did he answer right away but he came to my condo the next day. He replaced my shower faucet and shower head. Sam did a great job and I recommend his services.

I called this company out to my house and they took advantage of my wife. This is a company you can't trust. They overcharged for the visit and I called another company to get a second opinion only to pay 20% of the estimate this company was going to charge. Someone will call the attorney general sometime in the future.

Sam came over on a Saturday morning barely one hour after I called him. I had a leak in the kitchen ceiling. He opened up, found the leak and fixed it. He left a bit of a mess behind and charged me more than I expected. Still did a good job when I needed it.

I own a restaurant in Brentwood And I told my employee to find a plumber because we had some issue like always with plumbing And they gave me universal plumbing phone number in the Laguna Beach So I give them a call The gentleman who answered the call says that's they are not doing any jobs in Brentwood Of course my employer made a mistake Instead of finding plumber in LA he find that's in Newport and Laguna Beach But I'm kind of glad that he did When I called them they said that they have a job close to LA and they are willing to come to restaurant and take a look at the Problem Very reasonable price Very good service If there were more stars than five I will definitely give them more good job guys thank you

DID NOT FINISH THE JOB! Would NOT recommend this company! (This takes a bit of explaining, so please read the full review).

I had a gas leak and needed a plumber urgently. The gas company shut off my gas and stated I needed to repair the line between my meter and the house before they would turn my gas back on. My neighbor had exactly the same problem about two months prior and recommended a plumber. Unfortunately he was out of town for a week but he graciously told me what I needed to do and what he charged my neighbor for the work ($1,800). So I searched on Yelp and called Universal Plumbers based on the reviews.

Sam arrived on time and I explained the situation. The gas meter is located outside an external garden wall and runs under grass for about 30-40ft to the house. There is about four feet of concrete patio under which the pipe needed to pass. Sam made some comment about breaking the concrete and I said no way. A previous contractor had already run a 3 inch drain line under the same concrete so I told him it could be done. It just might take some time. In the end I was quoted $2,600 to replace the entire gas line. I tought this was a bit high based on my neighbors work, which I told Sam about. He said fine and left.

Ten minutes later I get a call saying they can do the work for $2,000. That was a big red flag, but I was stuck so I said OK. It was in line with my neighbors price and I didn't have another plumber.

The next day, (Friday), the work started. By the end of the day the original gas line was located and a trench was dug between the house and the external wall (but not under the patio or under the wall to the meter). Next day (Saturday) they arrive and complete the tunnel under the wall to the meter, but not under the 4ft patio area. It's about 2pm. I'm told the patio needs to be broken. I refuse, stating I made that clear up front. In the end they try to drill (go figure ?????) through the dirt under the patio. The drill bit breaks and they threaten to leave unless I give permission to jack hammer the patio. I grab the drill bit and tunnel a foot under the patio in about 10 mins to demonstrate it can be done. In the end we hammer a 5ft pipe (which I provided BTW) under the patio and the tunnel is complete. Once the trench is complete it take 20 mins to put in the new line and connect everything! I call the gas company to come and turn the gas back on.

At 5:15 the gas company hasn't showed up, Sam knocks on my door and states he is leaving. If I want the 40ft trench in my yard filled in, I will have to pay an additional days labor to get him to come back. I refuse and end up hiring one of his laborers off contract to come back the next day to finish his work!!

I concede Universal Plumbers may have underestimated the difficulty of the job. But is that my problem? I don't think so. You bid it, you finish it! Get some lessons in CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Sam was great! I called and he met me in 40 min and figured out the problem quickly. Before too long he was done with the job and saved us from a horrible leak. He is fast, professional and extremely experienced. I highly recommend this company! You wont be disappointed!!

I highly recommend Universal Plumbers. Sam is awesome!! Our water heater broke on Saturday and we needed a new one right away. Sam came right over, went and picked up a new water heater, installed it and it cost less than what he quoted. He gives very prompt and professional service. He is a plumber you can trust!! I will be calling Sam for all of my plumbing needs :O)
