The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters started on October 11, 1889, when 40 delegates from 23 Local Unions met in Washington, D.C. for the first convention.
Plumbing and pipefitting groups from cities nationwide sought charters in this new union.
UA Local 100 earned its charter three years after the International Union was created.
