The kitchen sink wasn't draining properly so I called American Home Shield (1st mistake) to request a plumber. They sent out ""R"" with Trophy Plumbing (aka Plumb Genius). I explained the problem to R and he proceeded to try clearing the clog with a drain auger. After a few unsuccessful attempts he announced the clog was too far out and due to not having a ""clean-out"" the only way to clear the blockage was to get on the roof.
1st problem: Roof was very steep and R said he would need a harness and 2nd person to help.
2nd problem: Machine for this project was too heavy to get on steep roof.
3rd problem. AHS does not cover this service.
4th problem. This simple clog in kitchen drain would now cost $1200.00.
A friend talked to R to see what else could be done about this simple clog under the sink. R said that due to not having a clean-out the only way to clear the pesky clog was to now install a clean-out so he could access the clog and that will be $1200.00 please.
My friend asked R if he had looked around the area to see if this clean-out was located elsewhere. R assured him he had done this and how unusual it was for a newer house to not have one.
I told R no thank you I will find another solution.
I called a local company, we shall call them H Plumbing, and they immediately came out.
H Plumbing connected their auger, located the clean-out (which was by the back patio about 20 ft from the kitchen sink, so well within the 100 ft area covered by my AHS plan), 40 minutes and $185.00 later sink was as good as new.
