My experience with Mr. Hutchins has been nothing but frustration and what feels like blatant lies. We contracted with Mr. Hutchins to install a toilet in a bathroom renovation. The installation was apparently complicated due to a discrepancy between the height of the old floor and the new tiled floor. Mr. Hutchins installed the toilet however, and told us not to use it for 48 hours. We waited 72. Within days the new bathroom smelled of a sickening sweet gas. Sewer gas. This was at Christmas. I called Mr. Hutchins after Christmas 4-5 times. By the end of January, after hearing nothing from him, I finally left an angry message, and he called me back within 10 minutes. He said he had injured his leg, which apparently also meant he could not return 1 phone call. He finally came back to fix the gas-leaking toilet. Two days later, the gas smell was back. I have been calling Mr. Hutchins ever since then (February). Once in a while he'll return a phone call, though most are ignored. Once he called back and told me he would come that Saturday and would let me know what time later that day, and then I never hear from him at all. It is now the end of May. I have left probably 6 messages since the last time he didn't show up, and have not heard a word back from him. I assume he doesn't want to deal with the project, but I feel like as he installed it, he should fix it. He should AT LEAST call me back. I even left one message begging for a return call just to let me know if he was going to come back or not so I could find someone else if needed. Still, nothing. His unprofessional behavior is mind-blowing to me. I would not recommend him or his company to anyone.
I am John Hutchins/ owner Tri Pride Plumbing. I have worked on Elizabeth Z's home twice, not numerous ocassions. First, to set a toilet, due to it leaking at the base 3.5 years ago, and provided her with a 1 year warranty. Upon arrival, I notified her of the pre-existing water damage. Any leak beyond 1 year is not under warranty and up to the homeowner to maintain. Second, Elizabeth called me one Saturday night at 7:30 PM notifying me that she had water coming through her ceiling. I explained how to shut off her water, release the pressure, and arrived at her property at 8;30 PM. She had a leak on polybutylene piping on the second floor which I had repaired. Since polybutylene piping has a class action lawsuit, I recommended re-piping her house to prevent further issues. She pays me via check, asks me not to deposit it until it is good. (NOT HAPPY!!! ESPECIALLY SINCE I DIDN'T CHARGE AN EMERGENCY SERVICE FEE, BUT THE WORK HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE) Several days later she calls and notifies me when the check can be deposited. Third instance(NO WORK PERFORMED!), she calls on Sunday night with a similar leak, I told her I was unavailable to come out then, but if it was urgent, I was only available at 8:00 AM Monday. She then notifies me that she had prior volunteering/charity work at 8:00 AM and unable to be there. As a courtesy, I explained my schedule and encouraged her to seek other plumbers. Due to my busy schedule, I was unable to work her in at any other time. Also due to her payment history, I was not going to do the work without her present to make payment at 8;00 Monday. I am in the plumbing business, not charity business, and I expect to be paid when services are rendered! She has never ""taken me to court"" since she has no merit and I did nothing wrong. I have never had a complaint filed with the NC State Plumbing Board or the Better Business Bureau ever! I have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, which she can call, and they would have investigated, and found my business in right standing. Some customers want something for nothing and impossible to satisfy!
Elizabeth Z.I have used John Hutchins with Tri-State Plumbing on numerous occasions and been very happy with his service, unfortunately things have changed. I had a leak in my plumbing last month which he fixed and all was good. I had another leak last week called John, he said he would be here 8am the next day, he never called, or showed. A few days later I found out I had yet another leak caused by the toilet seal that he had repaired some time back. This caused a lot of damage under my hardwood floors, the tile etc. I called John numerous times so he could take care of this, but he will not return my calls. My only option is to take him to court.
