Recently purchased a home that had central air installed by Trevora Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning out of Washingtonville, NY. The company owner Jim, provided a written guarantee of the system for the remainder of the summer thru spring of 2021. During the home inspection, it was discovered that this system was configured against industry standards and utilized an evaporator coil designed to work on R22, an older outdated coolant, and a condenser that utilized the new R410a coolant. The problem is both coolants operate at different pressures and the equipment is designed to work with it's respective coolants, which could lead to system failure if not installed properly. Given the company provided a guarantee, I was a little more comfortable given the questionable installation. On September 12th, I heard a loud hissing coming from the condenser unit. It was so loud, it could be heard throughout the house. I went outside and discovered that the unit was off, but continuing to make a loud hiss. This went on for about five minutes as the leak eventually bled out. I left a message for the company on September 14th and received a call back from Jim, later that day. He stated that he should be able to come by that evening to take a look, but would call later on to confirm. That evening and the next day went by and I still had not heard back from Jim. I called him back on September 16th, to see when he would be available to come out. He said he had been busy but could come that day. Since I was not home, I asked if he could come another time. He told me he would come out the next day in the afternoon of September 17th. I waited for him all day and night, and never heard back from him. It is disappointing to see that a tradesman would complete work that is against industry standards, provide a guarantee that he won't honor, and make appointments that he doesn't keep. I do not recommend anyone doing business with Jim and Trevora Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning.
