DO NOT USE TRAVERS PLUMBING!! My elderly in laws had a clogged kitchen drain. They called Travers Plumbing as the business in Portsmouth is less than a minute away. Travers came out three times to snake the pipe and each time ended with a different story. ""we need a bigger snake, we need to send down a camera, we need to power jet the pipe."" My in-laws ended up paying $500 and they still didn't clear the clogged pipe. Erica (who answers the phone) said that they would have to replace the pipe but the owner would "" give them a discount"". No way! $500 and the pipe is still clogged? My in laws are in their 80's and were taken for a ride!!! My mother in law showed me a pipe that the ""plumber"" said needed to be replaced. It was a vent pipe!! Not even the drain!! I called a local plumber who came out, found the clog, replaced the pipe, and fixed the problem for less money!!! Travers is a scam!! Stay away and do NOT use them.

WARNING!!! I used this company for a bathroom renovation....unprofessional and poor workmanship is an understatement. A plumber cut a large hole in my living room ceiling to access a pipe in the upstairs bath....could have accessed this pipe through an exposed sub-floor. The total bill was almost $500 - $168 for a pvc elbow and the remainder was for 3 hrs of labor. When I spoke to the owner, Gary Travers about my concerns about the work, he told me he would give me a discount if I continue w/ his company. Cold day in hell! When I went to the local building inspector's office to file a complaint, I discovered Travers Plumbing and Heating never pulled a valid plumbing permit. I am now in the process of filing a complaint w/ RIDLT business regulation division. MBA, Tiverton

I called Travers because my shower wasn't hot, but I had hot water everywhere else. They charged my debit card 235 for 3 hours before the plumber even came out. He ran his hand under the water and declared that we need a new electric water heater. We had one installed and I still have no hot water in the shower. So basically, I paid 235 plus the cost of a new heater for 10 minutes of plumber services. Total rip off. Find a different plumber.

Wouldn't call again. The serviceman came 4 times to fix a no hot water call over three days! Asked specifically if they knew how about this specific boiler. He admitted later he didn't. I even had to call the manufacture rep and find out what was wrong and he still couldn't fix it. Never could fix the problem and charged me $175 for nothing. Had to call another company who charged me way less and came within an hour and fixed in 30 min. When complained to owner he was a jerk. Never again.

I have been doing business with Travers P&H for the past 5 years. I cannot express enough how Dependable, Knowledgeable and above all HONEST they are. My most recent reach out and service from them involved a Saturday 11/12/16 call out to them for ""No Heat"" at my Newport, RI condo. They returned my call in less than 15 minutes after leaving a message. I informed the technician that the gas fired unit was turning on but no heat was being generated. He explained what the possible cause was and that it would be an easy fix if they had the part in stock. BUT - he also explained that the weather forecast for the next 2 days was good and that there was no need to rack up the weekend (Saturday & Sunday) higher rates. Here comes the Trust & Honesty part - The unit is unoccupied and has electronic locks to allow access. Monday AM they arrived as promised, let themselves in, and effected the repair. The bill was mailed to my home in Massachusetts. The amount was certainly NOT what I had expected. The part they said was not the problem. They could have easily soaked me for that part, time and labor and I never would have known. They replaced my defective thermostat which was the problem. My thanks to Erika and the boys for AGAIN providing, Fast, Fair and Reliable service.

I am very grateful to Travers - in the middle of a snowstorm, I realized my hot water heater was leaking - I called Travers and Joe, their technician was able to brave the storm and get to me within an hour. He stopped the leak and then was actually able to get the replacement heater and install it, and get everything working - all within a few hours on a horrible travel day. I am very impressed. I had already used them for more minor repairs, but I am so pleased with how they handled this more urgent situation. They really were reliable and did great work on top of it all. Five stars!

Absolutely fantastic.

I called them first thing on a Monday morning about getting my leaking hot water heater replaced, hopefully that day. My experience with Travers was great from making the phone call right until writing the check (well that hurt, but the price was reasonable!)

I called and the phone was answered quickly, the woman I spoke with knew what she was talking about, was able to give me an approximate estimate over the phone so I could run to the bank and was extremely professional and polite the 3 times we talked on the phone.

She had originally said afternoon, but was able to get someone out there before 11am, she called just as I'd gotten home from the store, so that worked out perfect. The technician, Joe was fantastic. He came in, explained exactly what he needed to do, left to get the parts and was back a short time later, in less than 2 hours I had my new hot water heater. I was prepared to have to mop up water and wash my kitchen floor after he left, but there was absolutely no mess at all. I hate cleaning, so that alone would get them 10 stars if I could give them!!!

So, if you need a plumber, give them a try. Their service is excellent, professional all around, they clean up after themselves and prices are very fair. I wouldn't go elsewhere and I'd recommend them to anyone.
