Recommended Customer Reviews
Summary: workers seem knowledgeable, however, I still feel like I was scammed in part because the installer recommended extra equipment the initial tech never mentioned (a $250 pump) and I feel like the installation techs were not respectful of my home. Full explanation below.
When our furnace died last week, I called the number on the sticker on the furnace, and reached TR Miller. That wasn't the name on the sticker, but it was urgent so I scheduled a tech to come out that morning. Mike came, as scheduled, between 8 am and noon. He was very kind and polite, putting on booties over his shoes immediately after entering our home. He took a bunch of stuff apart on the furnace and talked at me the entire time showing me all the things wrong with our 13.5 year old furnace. After a few minutes out in his van, he came back and handed me an iPad with 3 fix and payment options. The cheapest option was well over $800 to replace something, I don't even know what, just to get the furnace working again. He didn't recommend that option because an average furnace lasts 15 years so he didn't think it was worth it to sink almost $900 into a furnace installed 13.5 years ago. After a phone call to my husband, we decided to replace the whole thing for a cost of $3500 (rounded down). The installation was scheduled for a week later so he got the furnace in working condition so we would have heat until then. The entire week I felt pangs of regret, never really shaking the feeling that I had been taken for a ride.
The installers came on time the next week. Two gentlemen walked in, started to take their booties out of their pockets, then for some reason stopped and put them away. Mike, the very first tech to come previously, had assured me the installers would wear booties and put down drop cloths to keep our home clean. Apparently our home doesn't seem like it deserves to be kept clean? No drop cloths were laid down as the men took their first trip to the basement to inspect the area. After making a quick inspection, the head tech asked me if Mike had mentioned a new pump. I had no idea, but after checking my paperwork, I saw he hadn't. The tech said we would need a pump to move the condensation up and out, away from the furnace because our basement doesn't have a floor drain (which it does, just not in the ""right"" spot it seems). The cost of this pump: $250 on top of the $3500 estimate we had gotten.
Within minutes, the other tech asked to use our bathroom, so he walked across our carpet and into the bathroom in his dirty work boots. The icing on top is that he left the toilet seat up. When he came and asked to see the thermostat, I finally stopped him and asked him to put on his booties. I have 2 young children who spend a lot of time playing on the floor and I like to try to keep them clean. Their complete lack of concern for the cleanliness of my home really bothered me.
As the weather was beginning to warm, I took my toddler outside to play in our front yard while the techs worked. One tech came out twice to smoke in the truck in our driveway so I had to move my toddler away from the area to avoid smelling/breathing the cigarette smoke.
Installation was complete in 4 hours. I had a lot of cleaning to do, although they cleaned up the basement work area well. We also had to re-do our financing paperwork since we paid an extra $250 above the initial $3500 estimate.
Ginger K.I called them Wednesday am during the severe wind chills and cold weather. I had no heat. I was told if another client canceled they would send a technician over Wednesday otherwise someone would be there Thursday. I never heard from them. On Thursday no one showed up. I called at 1:45PM and asked what happened? I was told they called me Wednesday evening and left a message and since I didn't answer my phone they figured I canceled and found someone else.
Their were no recent calls or any messages left. I was told I would have to wait until Friday to have my furnace looked at. I asked to speak to a manager. Bob did call me half an hour later and had a cancellation and was going to send a tech out in the evening but I called Jerry from Jerry's Heating and Cooling. He came out in 15 minutes and fixed my furnace. Call Jerry!
Jessica H.5 years after having 3 bad experiences in a row with them, I thought I'd give them another chance and called to ask for a quote for installing an existing garage heater unit in my new house's garage. The good news is that they returned my phone call; bad news is that they told me they don't install garage heaters that haven't been purchased directly from them, and for me to call them after I've had someone else install the unit. Don't hold your breath for that call, TRM...it's never happening. A different local HVAC company took care of it for me.
Used this company over the last 15 years. I used to like them because they would just handle what needed to be done but it seems like that has changed. I miss their tech Larry who seemed honest and professional. Wanted them to just do the yearly maintainence and change out the humidifier pad. But immediately upon arrival the tech said he wanted me to watch. He showed me the blower mower had lateral movement and that was bad. He noted several other things. Seemed like a fishing expectation on a 19 year old unit.
Stephen B.We have utilized the services of TR Miller on multiple occasions. Today we needed our air-conditioning unit repaired. Dennis was our technician. He's been to the house before, and today's visit was no exception to the thorough job he does. Always explaining beforehand what is wrong, giving a price prior to starting the work and leaving the old parts as proof of completion. I highly recommend TR Miller as well as technician Dennis.
My 14 year-old A-C was on its last legs and I got four quotes to replace it. T R Miller's price was competitive for an American Standard unit, which is top-rated for reliability. Their scope of work was complete, with no shortcuts. Job was scheduled quickly, installers came as scheduled and worked quickly and efficiently to remove my old unit and install the new one. Basement and yard were left in immaculate condition, to the point that if I did not see a new unit in place, and working well, I wouldn't know anything was done. Nice job!
In 2007 when I was looking to replace the furnace, air conditioner, two water heaters, humidifier and electronic air filter, I leaned the GREED that is going on in this service industry. I was hesitant to use large companies like TR Miller (those days it was Tamarack heating and cooling). After going through a number of ridiculous quotes from mostly so-called ""family owned"" heating and cooling companies, I called them for a quote. They came and give a quote which was exactly half of the largest quote I received for the same appliances with the same configuration (i do my homework pretty well). There were no pushy sales tactics like ""if you sign the contract now we will give you a discount"" and any of that nonsense.
Even with that price, Tamarack is making a decent profit.
Those who are in the business; if you happened to read this review, please understand that everyone including myself want you to make a decent profit. But cannot agree to someone who is going to charge twice the amount.
A team of guys came to install; all of them on the same day. The work included putting new ductwork, repositioning the air conditioner to the side of the home which is less exposed to sun and also rerouting the exhaust from water heater (all of them per their professional advise)
I was really impressed with their workmanship. They have been servicing our home furnace and A/C time to time. They are really good at it. Today, I had a service service visit by Mike for the second time over last few years. I am really impressed with him as he is fast and explain every step of the way. I will tell them 'Never Loose Mike'
John A.Tr Miller takes care of all my heating and cooling needs. They arrive when scheduled. Get the job done and keep everything running well in winter and summer. They clean up as needed and are very pleasant from scheduling through any work they perform. New texting reminders and technician tracking are new improvements from last year.
Responded within 2 hours from my original call on our failed A/C. Super responsive and knowledgable. Had my A/C working within hours of the call. Technician was courteous and explained everything. Fantastic support by the field technician and I would highly recommend.
Great job !!
The very best you can get in a HVAC company. We have been using them since they opened and have had nothing but good things to say about them. The first and foremost is they are honest. No gimmicks, just repairing what needs to be fixed and not padding the bill or bait and switch schemes. We just had our central air replaced by them after their technician Mike gave us various options to repair the system, never pushy or trying to sell more than what we needed. I talked to the owner Tim before Mike came out and they educated me as to how my system worked and what could be done to make it more efficient. Their prices are fair, I am not the type of guy to take the lowest bidder, but with them you don't have to worry about being gouged on price. I have nothing but good things to say about them.
