These people are sneaky and uninsured. They have had two different insurance companies ""represent"" them in the span of less than a year. Neither of which are willing to claim responsibility for the mess they made at my home. These people deny ownership and accountability for their lazy installations from the owner at the top all the way down to the repair men that have visited my home. Absolutely atrocious customer service. They are manipulative and implementing any and all stall tactics. Spend the extra $200 to go with a company that's insured and delivers quality service all around.

I had an issue with a system they had installed 10 years ago--I only called them because I thought it might be more efficient to have them repair it, even though there were major issues when the unit was under warranty and they sent out a repairman who didn't know what he was doing. Those issues eventually got resolved, but the system had a slow freon leak that wasn't detected until it was out of warranty. I had another service come and top off the freon and it was fine for a couple of years, but the second time I had it done, the increased pressure made the leak worse and it wouldn't hold a charge. Anyway, as I was attempting to explain the whole history the guy from Top Tec started YELLING at me and became very rude because he thought I was blaming them for the initial problem--it may be true that their work caused the problem, but I know it's now my problem and I was willing to spend money on them to fix it. I have never been treated as disrespectfully by someone I was contacting to pay THEM money. Horrible customer service.

TOPTEC is top notch!!! Joe and company have done a wonderful job with our Mitsubishi air/heat...we love it! Adam (really knowledgeable TOPTEC tech) did a great job on our one year maintenance today. We have already scheduled insulation and duct cleaning. Soon our house will be fit for what ever a Chicago winter will bring. Thanks TOPTEC!

Top Tec came out and inspected my two furnaces and were very professional and helpful with their diagnosis. I recommend them without reservation, if you are having trouble.

I had a very good experience with Top Tec today. My furnace had been running only intermittently and was not responding to the thermostat settings. I had no idea what the problem was. Adam Baker called while he was on his way to my house and we talked through the issue which saved us time when he got here. When he arrived, he was polite and courteous. He found the problem within two minutes and was able to fix it within 20 minutes without any new parts. I was charged a reasonable fee and was thanked for my business.

Joe, the owner is a con-man. He comes to your house and says his workers are the best trained, definitely not true. After four trips to our house, the furnace was finally running properly. The furnace workers are clearly incompetent, at least the majority of them. The plumbers are slightly more competent, but rather rude. On top of everything, Toptec is more expensive than all the other companies I got an estimate from, but I trusted the owner's statements. Also, the owner said that he ""prided himself"" in sticking with his initial quote and would not nickel and dime you. Well, this was another lie, an extra $300 here, $400 there. Avoid a pricey bill and a huge headache, go with any other company.

Top Tech is not ""Top""
The owner came to my house and gave me a list of improvement estimates for my home HVAC system. He charged me a few hundred dollars to test the air flow rate through out the house and insisted he deserves to charge the rate because he is an expert that has been going to continuing education for his profession. The estimates were hundreds of $ over other better qualified HVAC companies. I found this out after I accepted one of the estimates. 2 young technicians taped and sealed all the sheet metal and moved my dryer vent. They used the wrong dryer vent tubing and all it did was collect lint and clog my line. The outside vent for the dryer has since fallen apart. They originally did such a sloppy job of sealing around it, I went and scrapped off the excess sealant. Still doesn't look clean. I live very close to Top Tech and was still charged a trip charge. I see there vans around and notice they now offer plumbing and electrical service. As a trade business I would assume you have to get one trade right before you could offer additional services for other trades. All in all a bad experience from what it seems like inexperienced techs, I felt hosed.

I've used them for my furnace repairs for several years because they are close to me. My biggest complaint about Top Tec is that that are very very expensive. I did have one problem with them. $750 seems ludicrously high for a vent cleaning. Also, when I had them out to install a new humidifier on my furnace, they somehow (don't ask me how) shorted out my brand new Honeywell programmable thermostat. The thermostat was working just fine before they walked in the door, and was not working when the guys left. I called Top Tec immediately to say something happened to the thermostat when the guys were installing the new humidifier. (I know they had to disconnect wires because the humistat was attached directly next to the thermostat) and got charged for a second service call and nearly quadruple the cost of a basic Honeywell replacement thermostat. I attempted to question the charge and the incident and got nowhere with the owner. This reduced my faith in their services just a tad.

Had these guys come out to install a new control valve for my furnace since the old one was leaking gas. Charged me $300 for the valve and then came out and said that the valve didn't even need replacing.

When I tried to get my money back for the valve, the technician said it would be no problem and took the valve with him. The next day they call back and said that the tech shouldn't have taken the part back because they do not offer refunds. Also, the part should be replaced since my gas company tagged it as faulty.

Ok fine, I had them come back out and put the new gas valve in. While doing this, the technician informed me that I had a whole house humidifier which I was not aware of and said ""here's the water valve for it"" and turned the water on to the humidifier. Little did he know that he did not check the drain hose coming from the humidifier, it was hanging down and ended up leaking through the ceiling and down into my garage, which was discovered by the plumber that we had to spend hundreds of dollars on.

After the technician left, before we discovered the water leaking through the floor, the entire house smelled like gas. With two kids in the house, this is probably not good. We had to keep the furnace off and call them back and wait for someone to be able to come back out to fix it. Hours later, after repeated calls to them, they had the technician who was at my house call me back to fix the gas leak myself. Somehow the technician knew exactly what he had forgotten to tighten.

We tried to get them to pay for the plumber but they refused, stating that their technician claimed that he never touched our humidifier which was a flat out lie. They did give us the money back for the service calls and the cleaning that they performed on the furnace.

Also, they did do a good job cleaning the furnace. No issues there.

All in all, I would not recommend this place to anyone, ever. I will not be going back to them for anything.

I had an appointment with Toptec to do an inspection, cleaning, and tune up of the AC unit in my home. I've never used them before, but had heard good things.

They never showed. They never called. We I called the dispatcher 30 minutes after my appointment window expired, he claimed that he didn't have the appointment schedule with him because he was only the weekend guy. Ummm ok.

Several phone calls later, and the tech still hadn't showed. When the guy finally called (and hour and a half AFTER the end of my 2-hour appointment window), he offered no apologies. I told him not to bother coming to my house, that I would give my business to a company who at least somewhat seemed to care about my time. The tech didn't apologize, just said ""OK. Have a good day."" and hung up. Charming.
