Recommended Customer Reviews
Jim C.Dre the tech. was at my door one hour after I called for service.
He promptly fixed my furnace issue and was neat orderly and knowledgeable.
I think the one star reviews toptec is getting are plants from rival businesses as I've used toptec many times before and always had quality services performed.
Calvin K.First I'd like to say that I'm very appreciative of the fact that I called TopTec at 7 AM this morning and they were able to get someone out to my place to check out my sump pump issue within a few hours later and not charge me an emergency call service charge. In fact they even applied a coupon to the initial service charge. That was awesome.
They sent out the first tech who was certified on sump pump's but unfortunately was not a certified full plumber. Part of his assessment was the PVC pipe going from the sump pump to outside the house was plugged somewhere and they would have to get a plumber out.
So they sent the plumber out of who's comment was early on that he had only been with the company a few days. Overall he was not very professional and:
1. Not respectful of my property. He did not wear boot protectors even though I asked about it.
2. Didn't know what parts he had on his truck.
3. Didn't know any of the part prices and neither him or the office told me what his labor costs would be after initial service charge I paid after first guy came out earlier in day.
4. Ended up calling his office to ask about quote on a fuse for the battery system on battery backup and instead of trying a fuse first or even testing the system properly, over the speaker phone his office was immediately trying to sell me on replacing my primary pump and battery backup when both were still working.
5. Didn't really seem interested in returning things to the state they found them in initially. I was left with issues I had to call another company to come out and recheck and give 2nd opinion on state of my pumps.
6. When he called his office and they gave him the final invoice amount it didn't seem right and when I questioned him about it he didn't seem willing to call them back to confirm so I had to demand that he called them back and indeed the amount was wrong. I even had to pay over the phone with credit card.
I will say that they were able to fix the clogged pipe and resolve the main issue.
It's end of day and I still don't have an invoice detailing out my charges I paid.
I'm not sure of the quality of their other services but I will not be using them again for sump pump services.
Overpriced. Was better before, but lately their service has degraded. Always trying to make quick bucks and taking advantage of customer situations. Never using them again!
Called them to do a vent and dryer cleaning of my apartment. The cancelled on me the first time because the equipment they had didn't work, and they needed to block off the street. The rescheduled a few weeks later, and I blocked off my schedule again. This time there was flooding, so they said they couldn't do it again. The offered $50 off, and rescheduled for today. Today I get called and was told 30 minutes before they were supposed to come that they can't come again. They said again, they would need to block off the street. This after I was assured that they would be able to do it this afternoon. They offered the same $50 off the $500 job. I will find a different company this time. Particularly frustrating because I had to book off time from work, and get the kids out of the house.
These guys are the absolute worst!!! I used to use them, and every time I called for a technician I would wait 45 minutes - 1 hour just to get a returned call, and several more hours for their crappy service. The saddest part of the story is that I'm local. I live 5 minutes from their offices!!!!!!!!
Dominick T.If I could give zero stars, I would. The technicians are not experienced or purposely don't know what they are doing. I wouldn't hire these guys to cut my lawn - let alone do anymore work in my house. I seriously think they mess things up worse just to get you to buy new services and products. Please do not let this company service your home or spend any of your hard earned money on this company. They will be out of business soon. STAY AWAY!!!!! TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE.
Dre came by our house. He absolutely knew what he was doing. He taught me a few things and quickly fixed what needed fixing. I will definitely go to Top Tec when I need them next...I will also see if I can get Dre to be the guy who comes by.
Horrible!!! These guys are full of you know what. They will b.s you so much it's ridiculous! Came in and they argue who gets the customer in front of you no hello nothing. Basically yeah what you need..... um no that's not how you approach a customer. This place is really bad people don't go here your better of elsewhere.
Consider alternative companies. Technician came to do maintenance check on air conditioner and left the old wire that he replaced and packaging on ground outside. Not a huge deal but sloppy. Worst part was he left the fuses out of the air conditioner when he left. I would at least expect him to put the unit back together the way it was when he got here. I was going to have them replace both central units that I have, however would not trust the quality of the work after seeing they way they perform their maintenance service.
I had a headache of a time dealing with this company and I have tried to put them out of my mind. However, I just got a LinkedIn request today from the owner, Joe, which reminded me of them. Anyway, as one of their consumers, it's probably responsible that I write a review just to let others know my experience.
Btw, we had a new HVAC put in along with vents in our attic because water would seep into our floor ducts during heavy rain.
Anyway, sigh... where should I begin?
1) The overall cost of the work included the cost of a permit ($200) which they said they applied for. However, when the work was done, we asked them for the permit number so the Village inspector could come and look at the work. We told them we would only pay in full after they passed the inspection. They then applied for an express permit which we later found out was applied for after the work was done.
2) When the Village inspector came to look at the work, he told us the permit they applied for only covered the installation of the external a/c unit and did not include the work that they did with the whole ventilation system. He had no choice but to fail the inspection.
3) When we told Joe about it, he started yelling at my husband and asking, ""What did you tell them?"" and "" Why did you talk to them?"" and ""You need to watch what you say to them""
4) When they finally applied for the correct permit, the Village sent a tester to come and test out the system for the amount of leakage - they failed the test.
5) Joe then insisted that it was impossible because his guys do immaculate work and the tester doesn't know what he's doing so he sent his own tester and then they miraculously ""passed.""
6) We didn't trust the whole situation so we asked the first tester to come back again (he was kind enough to come and do it for free because he was sympathetic to our situation). He again showed us the numbers which were consistent with the first time he tested the system.
7) Anyway, Toptec was unhappy and said they were going to charge us an additional $200 for the permit which made no sense because we were paying for the permit already and it was something they should have had before the work started. They then said they were charging us a penalty because we didn't pay the full amount as soon as the work was done and that they were losing money on us. I reminded them that I was the one who was losing money because I had to take off work while they came in to install the system. And I had to take off hours just so I could let the testers come in.
8) Another thing that annoyed me is they they put their labels on all our stuff including the water heater and pipes which they had nothing to do with installing.
Anyway, once they passed, we paid them in full and were glad to get the whole thing over and done. The positive is that at least we have a nice new system that works well but it wasn't without the hassle... so no, I don't recommend them.
