This company is amazing. I was referred by a friend after a leak was found at my meter box. I had made several calls to different companies trying to get someone out to see where the problem was and how to fix it. When I called Tonkin they said they had a full schedule but since my water was turned off they would fit me in. Another plumbing company had stopped by before and without taking the time to determine the problem quoted me $500-$1000 to fix it. I assumed the worst since the price was so high. The plumber had to leave and after they left Tonkin came to the rescue. Mike the plumber took more time to establish what was causing the problem and it ended up only being a cracked coupling. My leak was fixed in a matter of minutes and at less than a fourth of my first quote. Mike and his assistant were fast, friendly, knowledgeable and affordable. They cleaned the area that they worked in so well you couldn't even tell where they cut the grass out to find the leak. I strongly recommend this company. I know I will be back if I have plumbing issues in the future

We have used tonkin many times with very good luck.

I can remember one time when I was at work and my wife was at home. We had a fencing company over to replace the fencing around our back yard. The person taking out the old fence used a jack hammer to remove the old post. He jack hammered right into the skimmer return line for our pool. My wife didn't know that the skimmer line was broken. She though it was a house water line so she shut off the main water line to the house and called me. She said to me that whole back yard is flooded and water still keeps filling it up even thought the main water line is shut off. I came home and saw the fencers shoveling water out of a big hole. I told them that as long as the pool is filled, they would have to keep shoveling water. The fencing company is no longer in business. I wonder why?

Tonkin plumbing came for an emergency rescue! You would never think you need a plumber for a pool, but this time we needed one. Tonkin plumbing came and plugged the pool skimmer with a special plug. Then they removed all the standing water and repaired the skimmer pipes that were severed by the jack hammer. After all was said and done, the fencing company paid for all the plumbing damages.

We have also had Tonkin do other plumbing around the house. Like a water heater, pressure regulator, and other various sinks. They always have done an excellent job!

I have been using Tonkin since I moved into my home 13 years ago. the home was built in the 70's and we've had remodel jobs and other issues that have come up. I always hate dealing with plumbers etc. as I'm afraid I'll be ripped off. these guys are honest and do a fabulous job. My husband is a carpenter and trusts them implicitly. They're on my speed dial for whenever I have an issue . They don't deserve a one star for any reason, so ignore that.

These guys are awesome! They have completed several commercial jobs for me over the last few years and all their work has been top notch. They do get a little busy so sometimes we have to wait a day for them to come out, but they always get the job done right and for a fair price. Their employees are always professional and courteous. It's always good when you can find someone that does the job right and doesn't overcharge for their work. I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone who wants the job done right the first time.

I have a rental property and there was a leak in the waste water pipe from the kitchen. I opened up the wall myself and the pipe was messed up in the foundation of the house - not an easy job and far beyond the abilities of a layman like myself. My regular guy couldn't handle it and the guy they referred me to was in the middle of a big job and couldn't do it in a timely fashion either. So I asked my uncle, who also does rental properties, and he referred me to Tonkin. I will say this for them: they are very prompt and had the resources to handle the job properly. They had a plumber out the next day and were busting up the concrete that afternoon. The problem was revealed to be worse than anybody thought (a sentence you never want to hear from a plumber: ""Wow, I've never seen anything this bad - I called some other guys and they said the same thing"") and the job quickly grew in scope and would take multiple days. Again, in the interest of fairness Tonkins was responsive and communicative at this point. Once the job got underway, however, we had several ""incidents"".

About halfway through the job Tonkins rough treatment of the line they were working on cracked the perfectly good pipe joint under the sink and tore out two of the slip washers (takes a pretty darn good amount of force to do this), causing the sink cabinet to flood when the tenant (who didn't realize that Tonkins had messed up the pipe) filled the sink with water, did some dishes, and drained the sink. So I had to spend 2 hours of my time patching the line (I of course got the call at 4:58pm, and Tonkins closes at 5) so that the tenant's household, which has 4 young boys, had a kitchen sink again.

When Tonkins called me back the next day, I complained about the damage and got totally shined on - ""oh it must have been old pipes, oh you never know"". No, I do know - you weren't careful and I, the customer, had to pay the price. Whatever, it wasn't malicious but it was careless.

So things went ok from there until the end of the job, where - when I inspected the work area while I closed up the wall - I realized a couple of things:

Tonkins hadn't filled in the hole that they dug.
Tonkins had not strapped the pipe (this is a standard thing you do)
Tonkins dumped cement on my property and left it there

They half assed the end of the job. When I called Tonkins to pay my invoice I mentioned my complaints and asked for a 100 dollars off my bill - less than 5% of the total- to compensate me for my time. No dice. So just know when you hire Tonkins, you're going to pay a premium and get a half-ass finish. Be prepared for some carelessness, and to clean up Tonkin's mess and have them take no responsibility for any incidental damage that they caused, because that's what happened to me.

I have used Tonkin on at least two occasions and had great luck and also gave them a referral to a friend that needed plumbing work. Today is a totally different story - I needed a hot water heater replaced for a tenant. I called and was told they would call me back with an estimate. 90 minutes later I needed to leave so I called and got the estimate with no apology for not calling back. I called back a short time later after finding out the water heater needed a propane supply. I was told they would check and it would probably be a higher price, but they would call me back to let me know.

Never got a return phone call, so after waiting three hours, I called and cancelled their service for the next day.

I receive a voicemail this morning questioning me about telling them on the cancellation voicemail the reason I was not thrilled that they did not call me two times yesterday after promising they would. The attitude on the voicemail was terrible and I am done using this Company. Danielle, this is you I'm referring to!

Bottom line: If you can't treat your repeat customers with respect, you do not deserve my business.
