My evaporative cooler went out so I scheduled TLC to come out for a diagnostic on a Monday morning...no one showed up, no one called, and there was ZERO follow up from the company.

My wife and I needed a new evaporative cooler. The sales person was nice and gave us our options, so we purchased a Mastercool on 4/26/2018. We are overall satisfied with it. However, this past month I have noticed that the house is not cooling down as much as I would like. I inspected the mastercool but felt I needed an ""expert"" to take a look at it. Especially since we have not had it for even 90 days. Yesterday the tech, Mr. Castillo, a polite young man, came to take a look at it. I went on the roof with him and watched as he opened to top of the unit and looked at it. Within about 4-5 minutes he said everything looked fine. I thanked him and told him I just needed to make sure. Then he said he had to charge me $110 (approximately) for a ""diagnostic fee."" I was shocked! This was NOT explained to me when I called TLC for the appointment. Had I been ""warned"", I would NOT have had him come out. $110 for 5 minutes of only looking? This is a new purchase in excess of $3,000 and I would think that TLC would stand by their work/product and have complimentary inspections. Mr. Castillo told me that he was sorry that this was not explained to me. He said that with a ""preventative maintenance plan"", that these types of visits would be included as would the seasonal inspections on heating and cooling products. This was ALSO not explained to me or even offered upon my purchase.

::::::::UPDATE:::::::

The day I wrote this review, TLC saw it. They called me and apologized and explained to me that I was misinformed about the diagnostic fee and that I should have never been told that there was a fee. I really appreciated that they reached out to me.

TLC replaced the sewer line from our house to the street. We liked that they were reasonably priced and Robert with their small utilities division was very helpful in the quoting process. The workmanship was excellent and everyone who came to our home was very courteous and attentive.
We didn't like dealing with the scheduling department or accounting. We had the work done the Friday before Memorial Day, which was 8-9 days after the permits had been completed, only after I insisted that we needed the work done as soon as possible. The scheduler, whose name I missed, told me he probably couldn't get a city inspector that friday. The inspector was on site the day of the job though. He also said the asphalt crews only work until 2 on fridays, but the asphalt truck showed up at 3 and it was the same workers doing the plumbing that patched our street.
Then our crew couldn't contact the main office after completing the work to accept our payment. We suggest the field crews have a method of receiving payment on their tablets like R&R Plumbing does, especially after the ordeal we had getting through to the accounting department. After 4 days of no follow up from TLC, my wife had to call the office several days in a row before someone finally contacted her for payment.
Although I loved their plumbing crew and the job they did, I would be hesitant to used them again based on our office interactions.

Credit where credit is due. After a couple phone calls and this review, TLC did make a decent attempt to make it right. Final cost to me was adjusted in a very fair way. No doubt they pay attention and try to make it right. Satisfied!

Caveat emptor - last minute additional fees, unwanted services added, arm-twisting, and the sales agent not paying attention are what I experienced when I tried to use them.

I had called for a quote on a replacement evaporative air conditioner and relieved a quote for $2900. Each time I spoke with Mr. Robles, the sales agent I was working with, I specified the unusual pitch of my roof as well as the need to repair the flashing around the existing unit.
When the day of installation came neither of the techs were aware of these things. When they called in what they needed to do, the quote went from $2900 to over $4000.

While this is an unfortunate mistake on their part, it's not why I am rating them at 2 stars.

This low rating is for the arm-twisting that the sales agent did, as well as the unnecessary services that were added to the initial quote.

When I said I needed a day to think about the additional cost the techs, who had already taken the old broken unit off, offered to just take the unit with them. I agreed to this, thinking that this was a win/win as I didn't want the unit anyway and this way they wouldn't have to waste time hauling that thing back up on the roof.
An hour later when on the phone with Mr. Robles, he said that the fee to have them take the AC was going to be over $200, but IF I continued on with the project it would just be considered part of the original quote.

Now I could see where a small disposal fee would be reasonable but not $200. Not when it was the failure of the sales agent to take into account what I was telling him. To have him use that fee as leverage to continue on with a project whose cost just skyrocketed was enraging. Regretfully I didn't have the presence of mind to just tell Robles to have the techs turn around and put the AC back up on my roof.

Last but not least, even though I had been asking for an itemized invoice of services, it was only after this incident that I finally received it. And it was padded out with services in there that I did not request, such as annual service contracts and a digital thermostat. Neither of which was discussed with me during my request for quote.

For all of this, TLC has lost my trust in them.

TLC plumbing performed some work on my parents workshop last year on the outside water spicket. Over the fall it froze and busted a pipe. My dad fell severely ill in the fall and never called them to inform them. I got ahold of them the other day to follow up on the warranty and it only had 3 days left! With my dad so sick, I was in tears when I called, trying to get things in order for my mom, upset with pressing warranty deadline.... Katy in the call center was a very sweet and compassionate and made a few calls and adjustments and got someone to come out the very next day! Their plumber Quin was very kind as well, assessed the problem and got straight to work while explaining exactly what he was doing, how it happened, and showed my the actual busted pipe which was interesting. His upbeat personality and friendly disposition was very helpful as I was an emotional wreck. After completion he said to call if there was any further problems. Their customer service goes above and beyond- would highly recommend!!

After purchasing our home, and settling in, we decided we needed soft water. We contacted TLC and they installed a soft water system. It was such an improvement! After several months something went bad, the system needed repair and my husband contacted TLC. After a few weeks a technician had not contacted us to set up a date for service. SO, he called TLC again. Loretta answered the phone and was extremely helpful, understanding, and polite. She scheduled a service right away. THANK YOU, LORETTA! You are beyond 'good' you're the best. I hope TLC will give you credit for all you do to keep customers happy! Bob & Rosalyn W.

On a late Friday night my furnace stopped working. I called to see what it would cost to replace a ignitor on my unit. The woman said she would have someone call me with costs. Ten min. later a friendly voice called back and stated he would charge 169.00 to look at and see what the issue was. I asked if the charge would go towards the fix and he stated. ""we have honest people and don't over charge for no reason"". With that I set the appt to come in.

About 45 min later truck showed up at my home and I let Tech Mario Pacheco in my garage. I let him know the ignitor was what I felt the problem was. He let it run through its cycle and agreed it was the problem. Went in his truck got an ignitor and in 7 min. was done.

I checked on ebay to see how much the part was and how long it would take to get to my home. 14.99 was the cost including shipping. Mario charged me $342.00 for a 15 dollar part and 10 min. of labor.

WOW.....I understand it was after hours and took guy on call off his couch but I won't be calling this company ever again!! What a rip off!!!

Way over priced. The price of a minor repair for a clogged sink and pipe replacement jumped from $400 to $750 then I was ultimately billed $950 with no explanation for the increase. I have used them for years knowing they charge slightly more than competitors because I thought they were reliable. Recently I have had scheduling issues as well and the unreasonable pricing. I will never use TLC again.

We purchased our home in the spring and really didn't have an occasion to use our heater until recently. It was running sporadically sometimes blowing warm air sometimes just blowing air and recently because of the change in weather cold air. We call TLC during this busy time of year and they were able to get a representative to our home within a couple of days. Mind you this was not an emergency but we wanted to get it looked at ASAP. They gave us a window from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. I followed up with them at about 3:30 and the customer service person told us that our representative would be there soon. Cody arrived at about 4 pm. He was in uniform, well groomed and very polite. He asked me a few questions about the problems were experiencing and told me what he thought might be wrong. I also told him that we forgot to mention that our swamp cooler on the roof also needed to be winterized. I asked him if I should maybe call back and have another tech do it at a different time if he didn't have time right now. He didn't hesitate to say he could help us with that as well. We have a two-story home so a very long letter is needed. He diagnosed what was wrong with our furnace within a few minutes told me what he needed to do, and that it was relatively minor. He worked on the swamp cooler first and then came back in and made some adjustments on our furnace, clean the filter, and then tested it multiple times. He also went around to various vents in our house and ensured that there was warm air blowing throughout the home. When all the work was complete he went outside and brought in his tablet or iPad (??) and wrote up an invoice. I paid via credit card. I was really afraid when he was doing all the work that the cost was going to be a lot more than I could really afford. As it turned out it was very affordable especially considering this time of year and the expertise of TLC's technicians and their quality reputation. The next time I need help with our heating or cooling or even Plumbing I won't hesitate to call TLC.
