Kameron was very helpful and responsive during my home inspection. He was friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to continuing to work with Twin Home Experts.
Ian T.I don't enjoy writing bad reviews -- especially having previously given Twin Homes a glowing recommendation -- but after almost four years of emotional attrition, I'm done hoping for a positive outcome. Here's the timeline:
As stated in my previous review, back in Apr 2018, I hired Twin Homes to locate and identify leaks coming into the south wall of my garage. Promised an end to the leaks, I accepted all of their findings and recommendations, paying over $35,000(!) out of pocket for them to tear out, reseal and replace the stone patio deck directly above.
On Dec 2019, the leaks returned in the south wall of the garage. Twin Homes denied responsibility, but after I threatened to litigate, they attempted a second repair in Jan 2020 by tearing out and resealing a small portion of the stone patio directly above the south wall. But the leaks reappeared again just two months later. This time, they claimed it was due to gaps in the walls that just needed some $12 Home Depot sealant. So we took their advice and sealed the gaps.
After a year of drought, in mid-Dec 2021 heavy rainfalls revealed severe leaking and bubbling in the south wall of the garage again. We attempted to reach them via email, phone and even certified mail, but they flatly ignored us.
You can see a video diary of the leaks on Youtube:

So in early Jan 2022, we removed a section of the drywall and hired an independent 3rd party inspection company to assess the deck. Sure enough, they verified that the leaks were clearly coming from a compromised deck, noting Twin Home's substandard construction/repair work including failing to completely remove the rotted subfloor (as stated in our contract), failing to seal the deck drains to the gutters, and using cheap sealant not graded for decks among other shortcomings (see photos for reference).
I would like to believe our experience was just a fluke, but based on the recent string of bad reviews and complaints posted on Yelp, Angi.com, and the Better Business Bureau, their poor performance appears to be a growing trend. They're not even a member of HomeAdvisor anymore, even though they proudly advertise an ""elite"" and ""top rated"" status on their website.
Still not convinced? I checked the licenses of Twin Home Experts (#439600) and their front man Joe de la Fuente (#1046528) on the Contractors State License Board(CSLB). Twin Home's is currently ""canceled and not able to contract"" with a number of citation violations, and Joe's is currently suspended. Per the CSLB, ""It is illegal for an unlicensed person to perform contracting work on any project for which the contract price is $500 or more in combined labor and material costs.""
So here we are -- $35,000, four years, three recurring leaks and countless wasted hours later - and rain continues to dump water and spread mold into the walls of our garage where our now-toddler used to play. A home is meant to be a place of comfort, rest and peace-of-mind, but Twin Homes has taken all those things, our hard-earned savings, and countless hours away from my work and home-life and left my family holding the proverbial bag.
Please don't let it happen to you.
Frances S.Twin Home Experts was referred to us by our property management company for water damage / restoration in one of our rental units due to one of the weeks of heavy rain. Dalton went out and gave us a few estimates in a timely manner (one for a better solution and one for the best solution). We decided to go with the best solution which more than what we budgeted for but their great reviews on Yelp and Google gave us a peace of mind as this was the first time we were using them.
Dalton was responsive and professional and worked with me to come to a price that worked for the both of us. His team was able to remove the wet drywall, treat and protect the affected area, conduct leak detection / moisture testing and provide a mold certificate. Dalton was very communicative and also provided detailed photos of the work that was done through text. He also recommended a contractor to do the follow up work which we also appreciated. Our main goal was to restore our tenant's unit as timely as possible. Overall, we are satisfied with the work that they performed and we are hopeful that their work will hold up and prevent any mold issues from coming up in the future to keep our tenants safe.
Thank you Dalton and team for taking care of our property!
Lloyd S.Get another estimate! They're big time price gougers if they know you trust them to do the job. I checked their pricing after I had them replace my sewer line, by showing another plumber the estimate, and I overpaid by triple the normal rate. I do not recommend them for this reason alone. The work they did was fine. The price they charged during my sewage emergency was outrageous. I trusted them. Should have known better to trust a plumber. Get a second estimate, regardless of how desperate you are to have repairs done! Or prepare to over pay by a lot! Update: I posted this review a few months ago, but it disappeared.
11/11/21 Update: Twin Brothers Plumbing - now Twin home experts (expert scammers), dug under my concrete patio to replace the sewer line, and today the concrete patio collapsed due to a 6'x4'x3' void under the concrete where they removed dirt for the replacement. WTF? The twins & their workers suck!
Brian G.$6500 to run less than 20 ft of gas pipe from a meter to a dryer. This includes no drywall repair. Had to ask twice for the estimate. Estimate neglected the other 2 projects I spoke to them about. This estimate was almost 10x the other estimates I received. Sounds like they were too busy and just didn't want my business. I totally thought they accidentally added a zero to my estimate. Not one thing was itemized. Just a huge lump sum. Waste of time.
Wow, what a turnaround. I called the company to discuss a leak coming from the same area that they had previously worked on, and rather than disscuss the situation, the owner literally screamed at me and hung up the phone. I've never been treated like that before in my life. Avoid this place at all costs.
Had a fantastic experience with Ben and crew from The Twin Home Experts. I had a rodent problem regular exterminators couldn't figure out. Ben and his team came and did a smoke test and found multiple breaks in my plumbing that allowed rats to enter the home plus a toilet that wasn't attached properly to the floor so it was leaking sewage gas into the bathroom. Fixing the issue turned into a ""not so straightforward"" construction job as new problems kept arising for Ben and his team, but he did not leave until everything was taken care of. Feels like our home is functioning 100% for the first time in a long time. Very glad I went with the pros to figure out what was wrong! Highly recommend.
Robert K.Yesterday, at the end of day one of a three-day remodeling project to make room for a new washer and dryer in the condo I recently purchased, I was shocked to discover black mold on the floor. It had been hidden (probably for years) under a built-in cabinet that my general contractor had ripped out earlier in the day. This discovery was particularly upsetting, because it was already 5 pm, and stopping the project to remediate the mold risked throwing off the entire sequence of events scheduled over the next two days, and possibly costing me hundreds or even thousands of dollars in lost deposits (never mind the cost of the remediation). In a panic, I contacted several mold remediation companies, and Twin Homes was not only the most responsive and reasonably priced, they were willing to accommodate my extremely tight turn-around time. I spoke with them at about 5:45 pm yesterday, and by 1 pm today, they were on site. The job was complete by 3:45 pm, which means my general contractor can continue with day three tomorrow, as planned. But most importantly, Twin Homes did a stellar job! Dave (one of the co-founders/co-owners of the company) personally supervised the whole thing, from beginning to end, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. These guys (and gals) are pros! They do what they say they will do, and they do it well. Special shout-out to Dave for being so savvy and committed to getting the job done so quickly and impeccably; and to Ivy at the office for going the extra mile to make the payment process transparent and easy. Twin Homes have been in business for almost three decades, so they have the experience to solve even the most complex problems quickly and efficiently. I will definitely be keeping their email and number handy for my next remediation (or plumbing, or other home renovation) project!
Let me just say that we dreaded scheduling a mold inspection but after having found it in our walls, ceiling amongst other areas of our apartment we needed clarification. We were referred by our neighbor and from start to finish Dalton James used the utmost professionalism. Both my husband and i showed him areas of concern and he worked with us effectively and with efficiency, even giving us advice on how to attempt to minimize the mold in certain areas of our living space. THANK YOU SO MUCH DALTON! We didn't feel pressured to participate in a bunch of unnecessary testing and he made us feel very comfortable about the entire process. We highly recommend Twin Home Experts and Dalton and will be referring all our friends and family to them in the future.
Twin Home Experts is truly an amazing company! I found them on YouTube after being desperate to fix rat problem in a rental home. Jim was very knowledgeable, patient and an excellent communicator with me and the tenants through the entire process. Jim and his team performed a smoke test and found an open pipe in the walls. They opened walls to seal the pipe in addition to clean and sanitize. Unfortunately, there was still an odor in the home so additional walls had to be opened, cleaned and sanitized. Jim was persistent in his efforts and truly is an expert at his craft. I am so thrilled to say that my rat nightmare is finally over! I would highly recommend Twin Home Experts for any rodent infestation issues in the future.
