Tony M.Wanted to let you know that I'll be leaving a very poor review of your company.
I emailed some photos to your company, Jack left me a voicemail with a quote.
I called back, girl said she needed to talk to Jack and would get back to me.
A few days later I called back and spoke to Maggie. Again I was told Jack couldn't be reached and I would get a call back.
Third time, again spoke to Maggie who again told me I'd get a call back, and surprise, I never did.
I was hopeful with how quickly you all got a quote to me but it all fell apart after that.
Please work on communication as a company
Abdul S.Called them to rod my parents drain line to the sewer. They got there on time and took care of it fast and easy. More importantly though, they could have easily up charged us or made us get the more expensive service. Instead he talked to my elderly parents, explained the issue and told them he'll go with a cheaper option first becsuse he doesn't want to get them to pay for extra time unnecessarily. No other plumbers were available before the 4th of July so I would've spent whatever to get the drain cleared.
Their honestly is what REALLY stuck with me. I'm going to call them first going forward for any plumbing needs I have at my house or my parents house.
We had 2 slow-draining sinks and our shower had started backing up. Our home inspector had recommended pipe rodding and another plumber came out and quoted that and other services. As a second opinion we contacted the Scottish Plumber who sent out Danny, the nicest, most helpful person ever! He told us immediately that because our lower level bathroom had no issues, pipe rodding would be an unnecessary service. He looked into the slow-draining sink in our half bathroom and quickly fixed a problem with the stopper that was preventing the sink from draining properly. Then he moved to the master bathroom where the sink and shower were both backed up. He presented me with multiple options and the prices for each, but said he would first take a look to see if the issue was a simple clog close to the drain. It turns out that was the issue with both drains. He cleaned them and despite solving 3 problems and preventing me from paying for a service I didn't need, he charged me nothing. I did buy some of the chemical free drain cleaner the company sells as preventative maintenance on his recommendation. Danny was the epitome of what you hope for when you hire someone to come into your home and help you solve a problem. He has made a repeat customer for the Scottish Plumber out of me!
R E.Needed a water heater I bought at Home Depot installed. Called The Scottish Plumber and they sent Jared out. He seemed knowledgeable and said we would need some pipes, valves, and elbows replaced to install the heater. He then went out to his truck for a while and returned with an estimate of $1,600. It was twice as high as two other estimates I got, I decided not to hire him. Then he leaves and sits in his truck for a while. After about 10-15 minutes he gets out of his truck -goes to the back-and pours some liquid into a container and throws it on my lawn! Just because I'm a senior citizen (and a Veteran) with gray hair doesn't mean you should jack up your price and disrespect me and my property!
I called Brian & Sons out of Montgomery IL.
They came out and Paul the plumber (30 years experience) looked at everything and suggested the same replacement parts for the heater install. I hired him. He started work immediately and in less than 3 hours he installed the heater, pipes and valves, cleaned up and took the old water heater with him. Total cost $700.00. He did an Excellent job!
In the future if I need repairs I will call Brain & Sons.
Reading other reviews on Yelp it looks to me like this company needs a lot of retraining or New Management.
Nathan B.Finally got my money back. Four months later. Thanks Mark. Still a hard no to ever using this company again or recommending them to anyone.
Jenna S.As many people in the Chicagoland area likely experienced, we had some plumbing issues as a result of the Great Polar Vortex of 2019. Since we were running our water to prevent pipes from freezing, we found that we had drainage issues with our upstairs bathroom. We noticed a leak staining our kitchen ceiling and basement wall so we figured it was coming from the upstairs bathroom since that's where we had the sink turned on to drip.
Guillermo came over on a Saturday to take a look at the problem. He arrived on time but wasn't 100% prepared for the task at hand. I was a little concerned with his indecisiveness on where to begin looking for a problem. He kept asking me where I wanted him to cut into the wall and look but I'm not the professional, you are. I guess maybe he was doing it because he was going to have to cut into drywall and he wanted me to give him permission to do it so I wouldn't be mad? I'm not sure but it wasn't super professional especially since I have no clue what is going on inside the walls. I don't know what different types of leaks look like and, presumably, he does. He ended up cutting way too much drywall, including in the back of the pipes and then couldn't even see the drain pipe to the plumbing he was there to inspect. Our insurance likely won't cover that so we'll be on the hook for repairing it. Sigh.
Once Guillermo guessed the source of the leak, the plumber still had questions. He basically said he could cut into the ceiling under the toilet and look around or take the toilet out and see if it was a flange issue. He wanted me to make that call even though I don't know anything about plumbing. Of course, he cuts into more drywall, can't see a leak, so he still has to go take the toilet off. Turns out the toilet and the drain pipe were the issues.
In the midst of cutting into the ceiling, the plumber realizes he doesn't have a ladder tall enough to see into the ceiling and neither do we. He has to go to a hardware store in the middle of all this to get one and then he comes back with a broken one (not his fault, but such a time suck). So he's out again to get a new ladder to replace the broken one just so he can look up into our ceiling. I feel like all the plumbers should be equipped with ladders and other equipment they might need in all kinds of houses because we aren't the only people in Chicago with high ceilings. That ended up being 90 minutes of time we'd never get back just waiting for him to come back and finish the diagnosis.
Once we figured that out, we waited for the instillation crew to come in and replace a few feet of drain pipe and install a new flange for the toilet. We had to wait four days for someone to come and do the install which seems a bit long for a job that takes about two hours. Same thing happened with the install crew: they didn't have the correct size flange so they had to stop work and go to the hardware store. They were gone for almost an hour so my husband was just stuck waiting. They did a good job on the install once they were back and had the right equipment so our toilet is in fine, working order and draining properly.
We ended up paying about $1900 for all of this work, the majority of which was labor costs. It really seems a bit high that these guys are making about $250 an hour for ""work"" that included going to Home Depot to get more supplies that they didn't come with in the first place. The work they did shouldn't have even taken that long and I got stuck with the bill, which seems odd. Another $375 of that was just to let the first plumber make holes in my wall that weren't totally necessary just to discover the toilet flange wasn't big enough. I know that it's not his fault that he couldn't see that the toilet was installed improperly from the outside, but it was really upsetting to have the plumber basically ask me what to do in terms of where to look for plumbing problems I know nothing about.
Their customer service was always nice and easy to deal with, so that was a plus. Overall, I am happy with the work that they did since my toilet works and is no longer leaking, but I felt like the process of dealing with the plumbers in the house was somewhat unprofessional since the first didn't seem to know what to do and both sets of plumbers did not come prepared with the equipment they needed to do their jobs.
Eli D.I had an issue with a leaky toilet, which they later decided would be best to replace. After their first visit on Saturday, they took out the toilet and partially installed the new one, when they realized that they ordered the wrong toilet and that the tank didn't have enough clearance against the wall and it wouldn't be functional until a new tank arrived. He wheeled out the old toilet, spilling raw sewage on the floor on the way out, and left without cleaning up the mess. I was promised a call the next morning to schedule an appointment. The next day came and I decided to call the plumber mid-afternoon, to which he told me they actually needed to order a new toilet and that it wouldn't be there till Monday morning, and that he would express order it to make sure it would arrive on time. Once again, I was promised a call in the morning to schedule a time that day for them to come out to fix it. The morning passes and I decided to call them to see what was going on, when he told me that it now wouldn't arrive until the next day, and that once again, he would call me the next morning. Surprise surprise he didn't call and I decided to call the office line. It was after their normal hours, so the on-duty plumber answered and said that he hadn't heard of the issue and to call the next day. The next day, I called and they told me that the toilet wouldn't be there until Friday (mind you I hadn't had a toilet since Saturday morning). Frustrated, I decided to get my property management involved, and after a long day they said that it would be in the next day (I suspect the toilet wasn't ordered until then). They promised yet another call, and yet another empty promise occured. After not receiving a call to schedule the appointment, I called another time and they finally sent someone to fix the toilet. Now nearly 6 days without a toilet, the plumber came in and u apologetically fix the toilet. Needless to say, I won't use nor recommend The Scottish Plumber to anyone.
Best ever! I had a sewage back up and they came the next day with no additional cost. A contractor referred me and the prices are reasonable and the service was great! I will never use any other plumber but The Scottish plumber. They explained everything and showed up on time. I wish that I had known them when I bought my house.
Thank you Scottish plumber
Jory H.DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS!!!!!
I signed a loan with these people to receive plumbing services, but told them to cancel it after a few days because I decided I didn't want to use their services. I received nothing of value for the loan and now I'm being hounded by the debt collector. I called Scottish several time and received multiple empty promises that they would refund the loan. Now I'm still being hounded for the money and they are screening my calls. One of their managers, Chuck, even told me over the phone, ""We don't want to screw you. We will refund the money."" My naivety is laughable. Don't make the same mistake I did! Avoid the Scottish Plumber!!!!!
I'm not sure what was worse their plumbing or their customer service.
I hired them to replace my garbage disposal because they said my dishwasher wasn't draining because the garbage disposal was busted, which it drained into. They installed the new garbage disposal and my dishwasher still wasn't draining so they said it was a pump issue and I would need to call a dishwasher repair person.
I called a dishwasher repair person and they said the Scottish plumber installed the garbage disposal incorrectly and did not remove the bump out which allowed the dishwasher to drain into the disposal. The repair person simply removed the bump out and the dishwasher immediately drained.
I called and asked to be reimbursed for having to pay the dishwasher repair person $115 to fix their bad install. They said they had to talk to the business manager and they would call back. They never called back and I called three more times. The first two times they promised they would call me back and the manager was just ""busy."" The third time I called they said they didn't take complaints at that number and I had to call another number where I left a voice mail. I still haven't heard back, and I will never use them again.
