We contacted Lane Company for a quote on replacing the furnace and installing air conditioning. Three weeks after checking out the house (and numerous attempts at calling back), they finally called back. They told us they would not provide an estimate because the job is too hard, the AC would not work well, and they don't want their name on it.

It is hard to believe a company would turn down business in their specialty because it is too hard. Apparently they will only stand by their work on jobs they deem easy.

I got to hear about Lane from a deal on Pantagraph in 2014. I had someone come in to service my furnace. That serviceman was very courteous and though. No issues so far.

In December of 2014, my furnace started to make an odd squealing noise and so I called them to take a look. Two of them came in and took things apart, tested the wiring, and so and found nothing wrong with the motor itself. The furnace started to make the sound as they were walking out and they said that it was the fancier filter that was causing it.

The same evening, my furnace stopped producing any heat. I called them again and they came back and said that it was a blown fuse and fixed it. A month or so later, I got two invoices.

Per their recommendation, I changed to the cheapest filter I can find at Walmart and that didn't solve the noise problem. I called a month later and some guy answered and said that somebody else would be in touch. All I got were invoices and no follow up. As I stopped using the furnace, I didn't experience the problem until spring when I used the A/C. The noise was worse.

So I called them again about it and managed to get through to someone, who set up a person to inspect the unit in a few days. I asked her about the second invoice, and she refused to even accept that some unfinished work from their first visit could've caused a short wire leading to the blown fuse. Despite the noise, the unit below hot air perfectly till their first visit.

Granted that I had not proof about what caused the blown fuse, but to firmly claim that their agent couldn't have caused this was unethical to me. Just coincidence, the say evening? I think not.

I'd never go back to these guys again.

I have known the Lane Company folks for many years. At first they did HVAC. I have had occasion for them to help me with furnace and AC. In the last couple weeks they have done a SUPER job installing bath and kitchen sinks as well as installing a vent free propane heater for my sunroom.
The guys were very knowledgeable, efficient with their time, very friendly, cleaned up as they were working, and left me with notes to explain exactly what they had done. Service charges may be a little high but ya pay for quality.
I am pleased to welcome The Lane Company as rental property management starting in a couple weeks.

If you are looking for crappy service this is the place. My air conditioner repair took the following comedy of errors story. First, they sent out a tech to ""fix"" the unit. He found one leak, patched it, and then charged me to clean to coils by washing them down with my own hose. Well, this didn't fix the problem. Two weeks later, my unit wasn't working and I called again. The first tech didn't find the massive leak inside the house.

At this point I was considering a new HVAC unit. It was about 10 years old and could use replacing. Well I got a quote from lane. They wanted to sell me a unit that cost more than my car, with a geothermal heat sink dug in the backyard. I did not take this ""offer"".

What they did do was sell me a repair that later I found out was about double the market price. This was of course after the tech showed up three hours late followed by his van breaking down and leaking oil on my driveway. This place seriously blows, and they bill you even if they don't actually fix anything.
