Company Overview

Offering Top-Notch Service to the Greater Los Angeles Area Since 1969. Star's grandfather founded Ronald Rooter Service in 1969. In 1999, the company rebranded to THE DRAIN CO. Star is honored to carry on this family heritage as the third generation.

In 1998, Star Tomlinson acquired The Drain Co. from her grandfather, a choice she cherishes. Though she had little experience in drain cleaning, she dove in and began her journey. Her goal was to build upon the groundwork her grandfather established long ago.

To grow her business, Star engaged with various networking groups, including:
*The Northridge Chamber of Commerce, where she served on the board in 2010-2011 and is now the Vice Chair.
*Winnetka Chamber of Commerce.
*Encino Chamber of Commerce.

*San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce.
*Bagels and Business Networking.

Had two clogged drains. Tub and shower. Lazalo came out and cleared them both within an hour. He was nice and efficient, and the price was exactly what they advertised. I will definitely call them again.

I own rental property and have relied on the Drain Company for over 15 years. They respond promptly, are considerate of my tenants, and guarantee their work.
I recommend them not only for the quality of their work, but also their reliability as a resource to resolve appropriate plumbing issues efficiently and effectively.

I have intentionally not read any of the other reviews as I wanted my review to be untainted.

We had a plumbing issue that we had already done some preliminary investigations including with an ""inside"" plumber (sort of a friend of the family). We were told that we needed to have a plumber with the ""large snake"" machine to go deeper into our plumbing system.

Yikes. Always ultra-paranoid about being ripped-off, having padded billing, and knowing that this issue might be milked to the tune of a few to several hundred dollars than the ""proper"" pricing, we did more investigations to find a sort-of inside plumber, calling friends, etc.

No go.

So, I had a staff member just ""find someone"" and be on top of them as to pricing from the get go. I had heard of a competitor of this company and said ""perhaps"" call them but I heard that they can be ""pricey."" I needed this work done, however, immediately (kitchen sink backing up dirty water).

I was away from the home (my home office, where I do most of my work) and I periodically checked in. My staff had been given the instruction at 8:30 a.m. and by 10:30 a.m., the plumber was already here! Working! And before 11:30 a.m., the job was done!!!

Too good to be true. ""How much did they charge you,"" I asked with notable scepticism and worry. ""$75."" ""What??? Did they snake out the property???"" ""Yes."" ""With the deep snake that goes way into the pipes???"" ""Yes.""

I was already on my way home and I was thinking that either this was a total rip off, or, this company must be a VERY HONEST company. We had called them cold, from the internet, and we were nobody but a passing customer. I sort of raced home, really, with a bit of urgency (hard to believe, but true....). I called my employee again, ""Start running the dishwasher.... I want to see if it backs up."" ""Okay."" I called back, ""Is the dishwasher running?"" ""Yes."" ""Any issue yet?"" ""No.""

I arrived home. Dishwasher load finally completed (yesterday) and no issues, including the second real run last night. I asked staff, ""where's the receipt - are you sure that it was not $475 or whatever?"" There actually was hesitation - perhaps in reality as to why I was so obsessed with this issue. I took it to mean that maybe she paid more than $75 (gave a credit card so perhaps did not pay attention). She showed me the receipt. It was indeed $75.

I am a business owner and I see myself as one of these honest ones and I know it can be thankless and it comes from an internal morality, and is not done only for the others as much as some people are just honest, and it is the way we have to be as our own path.

This was telling. I have made sure that I put this company on my contacts. They don't know me but I am smart enough (not a genuis) to know a stand-out honest company when I see one and The Drain Co folks, whoever they are, are operated by MY type of folk.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I know that I am ultimately thanking you for NOT ripping me off which is my only hesitation in doing this review but the fact is that I appreciate good people within a sea of unsavory merchants, corporations, and so-called professionals.

Awesome response and awesome service

The Drain Co has become my go-to for all my plumbing needs and they never disappoint. Recommend highly and am so happy to have found a reliable company after much disappointment with 'neighborhood favorites.' They're just the best.

Star and her husband Mark, the owners, truly believe in old fashioned customer service. We had 2 houses at one time with several drain/plumbing issues. These people were honest, affordable and caring. They treat your house like it was theirs. Highly, Highly recommend. Will never use another plumber!

This company answered their phone over Memorial Day weekend on Sunday and came out in 45 minutes. They resolved 2 stopped drains quickly, gave good advise, took photos and charged an agreed upon rate. Very professional and Sam was great to work with!

They will dig up your drain pipe and replace it. Be prepared to pay 9 grand or more. But they know what they are doing

Reliable, honest, reasonable. Loved our female plumber Robin. She said we must have unplugged the problem and explained if it was the main line all our sinks toilets etc would be plugged. Nothing like having an honest stranger you've never met show up on time when dirty water is seeping into your bathtub. Company came recommended by two friends and I'm passing this recommendation on to All Yelpers. Would give 6 stars if I could. Way to go Robin.

Of course we called the DrainCo again when on a Saturday afternoon the water started backing up from the guest bathroom toilet - the lowest drain opening in our house (e.g.: washing machine, kitchen sink, etc. water would come out there if the drain was blocked farther down the main drain). I called and was told it would be about 1 1/2 hours until someone could get there - well worth waiting for. They also told me about how much i could expect to pay to clean out the main drain. I assumed this was the problem since the roots always seem to grow in that time of year, especially if it rained a few weeks earlier. Sam came - about an hour later (he called first to let me know he was on his way) and started to clean out the main drain... no problema.... but my son's bathroom's drains were still clogged (i wont go into the fact that that week my wife's cousin from New York stayed with us and was using the bathroom... just a coincidence I guess???). Sam found another clean out and started to rooter. Seemed to clear the clog but when he was pulling out the rooter it wouldn't come out. He tried everything... at least 1/2 and hour of pulling, pushing, turning, adding soap to the drain. He was really was working hard to get it free but by that time it was getting pretty dark. So he cut the cable and told me to call the company to set up a time for someone to come the next day to find out what the problem was. The next morning Mark, who is the expert on these types of problems called us and pretty much by 9 a.m. he was at our house and using his cable camera to find out what the problem was. About an hour later he was done - mission accomplished, something to do with a weird turn in the piping. Now hears the best part --- THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES!!! Nothing more, nada. What planet were we on I thought... plumbers not charging extra for an unseen problem. THAT'S HOW GOOD THEY ARE. AND FAIR. AND HONEST. Can't say that they would do the same for everyone... perhaps i'm special (or at least my plumbing is!). But as far as rotor rooting experiences go this was the best I ever had. Thanks Sam and Mark... the world needs more people like you.
